  1. Maybe my op was misconstrued a little, I didn't mean the end of this site, I meant the end of audio being unearthed, though I am more than happy to be proven quite wrong in that regard. Awesome to hear that there are still more bits and bobs to come.

You just never, ever tire of it. If it's a new mix uploaded, with nothing but familiar names you've heard a hundred times, you still can't wait to download and listen.

A greater endorsement after all these years, I couldn't give.

  2.

..... of 'new' old Jules sets?

A gloomy thought that dawned on me the other day when this site popped into my head as I was talking to an friend about old tunes etc. That's bound to be pretty much it, isn't it, as regards people uploading old tapes etc that they've got lying about from the 'golden era'. Surely any undiscovered tapes will not have stood the test of time if someone were to chance upon them now.

I assume R1 have them all archived on Dats or something and as such will never be released unless necessary.

Hopefully some will surface at a car boot sale or something, but I assume we've reached the pinnacle. In this day and age of throwaway, unending releases and music, I think it's safe to say we'll never see an era like it.

How lucky we are to have been through it then, (some of us!) and still have it preserved here for whenever we want to remember. Still amazing that there are id's being chased and identified some 15+ years later. Speaks volumes about how good it was then.

  3.

I was going through reading old issues of Muzik magazine on a website that has scans of every single issue and happened upon the formerly mentioned on page 5, Jules Do Us A Tape feature. And these years later I reckon like many it was a Jules production that was shelved and now lost in time no doubt.

Jacey B, could you elaborate on this more? Have you a scan of the page maybe... I'm intrigued

I dunno specifically which edition Jason is talking about, but I'm quite sure he's talking about the pdf versions of every Muzik magazine, which I also stumbled upon recently. I debated with myself whether to post them up here, as Jules features in the golden era (positively and negatively) very heavily, but was unsure of the the legalities really. *

Anyway, they can be found here, lost hours going through these.

*looking at the link, this seems to be official, so should be nothing dodgy about posting them.

  4. Jules recently tweeted alluding to something coming with Hi-Gate. Bit out of the blue that one. Not sure how I feel about it, Jules' recent productions have been ok, haven't heard anything from Masterson so can't really comment. Just hope it in't a cash in job, after the recent flux of producers going back to the 99 style (Ferry, MIKE, Steve Thrillseekers).

Maybe it's just a dreaded remix of an old tune, but it doesn't sound that way.

More hopeful it may see some of those unreleased tracks, pre fallout, now get brought out.

    Something quite special is coming very soon.... 1f913.png#judgement #hi-gate #2016 #music #house #trance #progressive #TranceFamily

  5. Welcome aboard!

He's a lawyer during the week, and dj's at weekends now. I suspect his employers are understanding of his situation, though, and it's not a strict 9-5, Mon to Friday set up. He also mentioned that his field in law is specifically related to the dance/music industry, so he's still keeping close ties set up with the people he dealt with before, I'd imagine.

  6. Mate, just having a quick listen to this.... I'd no idea Jules touched so many of these! I'd heard a lot of these before on local Irish Radio back in 1997 or so, on a show that I used to religiously record every week without fail! I then fell into Jules afterwards as a result later when it disappeared from the air here.

I dunno what Radio 1 was doing at the time, but Ireland gave Mark Kavanagh (he of Tripoli Trax infamy) six hrs live every Saturday nite, from 12 am to 6 on a wet behind the ears national radio station. It started off mellow (I distinctly remember Prodigy's Fat of the Land getting a full play and dissection once before it's release on the early part), banging out proper hard house at 3 (when the clubs emptied) and slowing down at the end again. It only lasted a year or so until the station was sold, but it was pretty incredible for a wide eyed 15 year old. My parents thought I was insane sitting up all night to record it on an every ready set of blank tapes.

Only a bit in but loving it so far, thanks so much. So many memories which I -bizarrely- don't really associate with Jules, despite me knowing most of the tunes!

Ps, would also love a tracklist too if possible, so many tunes here I've lost in a sea of chewed 90 min TDK tapes.

  7. Was there! Includes a ropey 'live' PA of Amanda over the Angelic tune; the sound meant the timing was all over the shop, iirc.

Still to this day have never seen or heard as good an atmosphere as Jules at the first event the year previous (available on the site too). This one was good, but lacked a bit of the magic of the first one. It was also the last in Ireland.

Co-incidentally, 2fm - the radio show who broadcast this- in the last few weeks uploaded long standing resident Mr Spring's set from this event, featuring glimpses of Jules (and Amanda, I think). Sadly, he confirmed it was the only footage from the day that was to be released.

Thanks for the upload, reliving the muck-fest now!

  8. The memory that immediately springs to mind when I see this set, is a rare cringy, fuddled up handover from Jules at the end of his set, comparing him to a bottle of champagne or some such.

Dave deffo got a bit of unfair stick back then. My main gripe was his often shambolic mixing, but he had an audience and was perfect at catering for it. Good on him.
