  1. This is weird, I recently went on a hunting mission for a few tracks with a proggy feel that I hadn't heard in ages. Namely, X-Press2, Muzicism, that Superchumbo mix of Missy Elliot, L'il Louis, Mutiny, The Virus, and that weird and unusual Wonderland which I heard on Jules' Clubbed (I think). Mad to see how many are on this set.

Thanks for the upload, will grab it when I get time.

  2. Ah yes, Playa Sol.

That version is the remade one 'No-one Driving vs Novacane' or something like that, i think that version lacked compared to the original. Luckily I have both Studio 613 & the Original version of Playa Sol (as played on this show) on vinyl. The MP3's are nowhere to be found, legal or illegal amazingly.

Very true. I've turned the old internet upside down looking for it, and it's nowhere to be found.

  3. I'd love to know what Jules memories are of this set! He looked, how would you say, well in tune with everyone! :D I remember him being asked in an interview a few years later when was the last time he danced in a field. 'Homelands Ireland' was all he said. It maybe reflected in the mixing, and even the scratching attempts!

I've said it recently, it's the best atmosphere I've ever experienced at any gig or club, dance or otherwise. At five in the afternoon too. Just absolute carnage, for an hour and a half straight. Man I'd give anything to go back.

  4. By the way, I sent Jules an email to see if he had anything special planned for his farewell on Radio1. He said the last show will feature a retrospective mix featuring a track from each one of his 15 years there, which is a lot better than just bowing out on a normal show as many of us thought he would. I imagine it will be nothing too obscure, I suppose, but it should still be good. He said that's about as far as he's got, planning wise for it.

  5. Ah, I know we all reminisce for Jules time back in the day on Radio1, but the whole station was just so much better back then. I used to really like Moyles at times then, it was as much about the other people on his show, as him, and it was great at times. All preceded by the inimitable Mark and Lard. Geniuses. Complete with their 'Non-Essential Selection' every Friday. The only bit I wasn't fussed on all day was Sara Cox in the mornings, though I think it was a lot to do with Radio1 wanting her to play up to the 'ladette' image that was all the rage at the time.

  6. Agreed - I hate Markus's vocal tunes. 'Daydream' in particular is one that I hate. He was also playing a corny "Big Room Reconstruction" of one of Calvin Harris' tunes about 18 months ago.

Markus, in my opinion, is at his best when he's playing the dark, moody stuff. I don't like him when he plays the floatier, vocal stuff. I find his new sound quite dull too.

My friend is a die-hard Markus fan and a good friend of his (a genuine friend, not one of those weirdos that thinks they're a mate because they've asked for his photo and praised his set) - and even she's admitted that she's going off him a bit now because when they pick him up from the airport or drop him off at his hotel, he's now become slightly obsessed with the DJ Mag poll and constantly talking about "Unicorn slaying" - whereas 12 months ago, he wasn't at all interested in the DJ Mag poll or "rebelling against the Trance scene with a corny title".

Anyway yeah, back on topic, Jules is a legend. Mr T is crap....

That's rather dis-heartening to hear actually. I mean we all suspected and even joked about how the DJ Mag was so important to these guys, but to read it in black and white sort of saddens me. Especially for such an established name as that. An up and coming dj looking to boost their profile, I can understand.

  7. Is that about here mate? That's class, if so. It's actually really brilliant to think that the man who gave us all this music for this great site, is able to take something back from it himself. As I said in another thread, I hope he's able to lose himself for a while to his timeless music once in a while, just as we do here. Lesser men could've been really arsey about the site, or just ignored it. It's testament to him as a person really.

  8. That's a good point, Briggsy, I'd never thought of it like that, could be very positive for him musically. May get rid of a few 'yes men' too, now they can't count on Radio1 airplay/ support/ piggy-backing, and they'll no longer feel the need tell him each and every thing he does is brilliant because some of the personal gain will have gone out of it for them . He may go back to his roots a bit.

  9. Ah, now you say that, I think I remember him saying that. I suppose the sheer physical scale of over a decades' worth of vinyl, given the amount he would've garnered, must've been enormous. Did he say what he did with them? Sold to a collector or something or just give them away? I'm sure for a man of Jules stature it wouldn't be hard to round up the required vinyl for a night, although I suspect the same as you, he'll play the fresher sounding mp3 versions he has instead, rather than having a root through to see if there's anything less obvious he'd forgotten. Imagine having a flick through those old tunes though? Heaven.

The essential mix will be a very nice touch if it happens (providing those jingles and those tunes aren't there  ). Imagine a banging BXR/Bonzai set from start to finish. We can but dream I suppose.

I think he'll genuinely lose a lot of the enthusiasm he has for the scene, once he stops R1. The fact he's been studying law again, shows he wasn't just thinking of milking it till the work dried up, then retiring. He's obviously given it some thought. I'd assume he'll have to massively cut down on gigs if he starts law seriously again.

  10. Yeah getting out the vinyl for a farewell mix of all his favourites!! :)

That'd be class. His own favourites too, no suggestions, no asking for tweets, just his favourite slabs of vinyl and two hours straight through. Maybe even recounting his favourite live gigs from down the years, playing a clip or two.

Jules being the ultimate professional he is though, I'm sure he'll not look for anything as self-indulgent as that, unless R1 tell him too or something. I'd say it'll be genuinely hard for him, when the final show comes around.

  11. .............

Anyway, back on topic, it is now public that Jules is becoming a lawyer...

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/news/dj-judge-jules-departs-radio-1-to-become-lawyer-6273542.html

Was just coming in to say I'd read an article on Sky's text service, but it's word for word what's in that article, same headline as well. In the showbiz section.

I actually noticed the other day, weirdly, that Jules had put a pic up on twitter saying something like, 'ready to go on Radio1 again', and a pic of him posing beside a Radio 1 sign, and thought to myself 'That's weird for him to put a pic like that up. We all know where he works'. I'll try post it. May be just co-incidence, but it did strike me as odd at the time. https://twitter.com/#!/RealJudgeJules/media/slideshow?url=pic.twitter.com%2FzcPXtyt1

I'd say Jules will be taking this quite badly myself. The words in that article from R1 about needing to bring in new sounds to keep the younger listeners happy, will sting with him in particular (as they would anyone really), as I think he made a concious effort to try and appeal to younger listeners (thus alienating a lot of us) for the sake of his show with the more commercial sounds.

  12. Sad to see because of all the fond memories I have of Jules being such a part of Radio1, but not unexpected really. I'm sure even Jules would have to admit that. I had a train of thought that Jules was playing a lot of the chart bootlegs etc, to angle for a more mainstream show if the axe were to fall, but it seems that's not the case.

Thanks for all the brilliant memories, Jules, but everyone has a shelf-life at somewhere like Radio1. In fact I'd say he's done very well to last as long as he has, with the dwindling popularity in trance, and emergence of other dance styles. That's something anyone would be proud of.

  13. Just bumping this to say I've just bought a tape to mp3 converter today, and I have the missing audio from this set. What is my best bet, just record my full 90 minute tape and upload it onto here? Or where do I upload it to? Just record the missing bits? My tape is missing the middle section which is already on this file. It'd be nice to have the complete set up here, it's my personal favourite set of the era.

I must have a look and see if I've any tapes which aren't up here too.

  14. I also spent ages trying to find out what Mr Spring - 'Profondo Rosso' was called as I absolutely love it, I was never ever going to find it with that title!!!! I didnt find actually that out until I came on here.

I heard Jules play it and had no idea what it was, then was at a party one night where a lad put on this clear blue vinyl. From the first beat I knew it was Profundo. I nearly tumbled everything to get the name of it! Class tune.

    Ha ha!

Was this always a sticky? Can't remember seeing it. Does he still use them anymore? I tend to just catch bits of his show on and off, don't think I've heard him use one. Great part of the quirkiness and uniqueness we all came to love.
