  1. Hope I may be so bold as to ask some of you would you be able to do me a favour, or point me in the right direction please. Basically, my mate is getting married in March, and he's come to me and asked me could I do an edit of a track for him. He just came to me as I had decks and thought it would be something I'd be able to do myself, but I wouldn't know where to start. He wants a certain song played as they enter the wedding reception. The song itself is some Aussie soft rock band that holds some sentimental value for them. He wants the chorus playing as they enter, but it goes into a breakdown after a certain point, and they don't want that part playing. He needs at least 40seconds for the walk-in and basically what he wants is a loop: the chorus starting up again as it was after it finishes (if that makes sense). I've got hold of a decent copy of the track itself. He's pin-pointed the exact start and finish times of where he wants the loop (he calls it his remix, bless him). Is it achievable, is there any software that I would be able to use to edit it myself, or am I just as well telling him it's more bother than it's worth? It doesn't have to be perfect or anything, but at the very least, they can play the song as is if it's too awkward. Anyway, thanking you in advance anyone who can help. Cheers. MBK.
  2. Is Gareth Emery worth going to these days? I see he's coming to my town Friday week (not that it matters to me really, as I'm going to Newcastle that weekend).
  3. Thanks for the response mate. Soundcloud never occurred to me really, I must try that. Never knew about the Mybeatport thing either, I must set that up for myself. I assume it's just through my beatport account? I suppose it's the now well worn addage that's used all the time now; you have to put the time in to get the gems. I think the fact that I am still only interesting in bedroom dj'ing and experimenting with different styles and sounds, means my appetite for sitting through so much music is much less than it should be. Especially as I still listen to a lot of trance, and we all know what it's like trying to find some of that we like nowadays! If I was using the music for playing out or something, I suppose I would be much more invested in the search. Anyway, thanks again, much appreciated. Keep the Showcases coming!!
  4. Just getting around to listening to this now Tom. Great as always. Loved the first tune, mean and moody, and also Marco Bailey, Matt Cooper and PE and Ban. Just out of interest, what do you use to find new music? Podcasts? Do you get sent much by way of promo's? I find Beatport et al mindnumbingly tedious to sift through. I'd like to start to listen to a bit more of this sort of style, the trance podcasts are all fairly obvious.
  5. This may or not be part of it, but I caught a bit of Radio1 yesterday, and I heard something about Chris Moyles doing some sort of mix with Kissy Sell Out (I think) on his show and definitely heard Jules mentioned in the same section. Maybe that's it.
  6. Ah balls. I just pm'd him with my personal email address for more details and added him as a friend.
  7. That's rather dis-heartening to hear actually. I mean we all suspected and even joked about how the DJ Mag was so important to these guys, but to read it in black and white sort of saddens me. Especially for such an established name as that. An up and coming dj looking to boost their profile, I can understand.
  8. Happy birthday mate! Keep up the great work, it's much appreciated.
  9. Dunno if it's been mentioned yet, but I think Jules' remix of 'Lucid. I Can't Help Myself' was pretty good. Got a lot of play from other djs around the time too iirc.
  10. Toca Me is a great shout actually. I know it's cheesy as hell, but I'm pretty sure Jules was among the first to break it, and even played a few of the bootleg ones including the one that topped the charts first I think. That In Pettito mix is awesome in it's own right though.
  11. Red Light District, Did you Hear Me?. Blew me away when I first heard that on a Jules cd. There really is around ten hours of stuff he could do, quality all the way through. Speaks volumes about the man.
  12. Caned and Unable for me too (the fact that I still like that after Jules playing it for about two years straight says a lot!). I liked Voices too myself actually. Quite liked Hi-Gate You and Me for some reason too, though it didn't really take off. D-Tune Earplugs is a great shout. I had a techno-y tune Portamantal Passout or something he did as well I quite liked (which also never was very popular, but I liked it). I liked On The Level too, but always thought it was a really lazy production. It's basically the Yomanda mix of Gibson Bros, Que Sera, with a different bass-line. Exact same riff, lay-out, everything.
  13. Agree with all the suggestions so far, and the only one I immediately come up with that hasn't been mentioned yet that is just so distinctly Jules for me, is Para Mi. I'm sure another few will hit me in a bit.
  14. Is that about here mate? That's class, if so. It's actually really brilliant to think that the man who gave us all this music for this great site, is able to take something back from it himself. As I said in another thread, I hope he's able to lose himself for a while to his timeless music once in a while, just as we do here. Lesser men could've been really arsey about the site, or just ignored it. It's testament to him as a person really.
  15. Quite sad to think these threads will be coming to an end soon. Always made for a good bit of debate each week.
  16. That's a good point, Briggsy, I'd never thought of it like that, could be very positive for him musically. May get rid of a few 'yes men' too, now they can't count on Radio1 airplay/ support/ piggy-backing, and they'll no longer feel the need tell him each and every thing he does is brilliant because some of the personal gain will have gone out of it for them . He may go back to his roots a bit.
  17. Ah, now you say that, I think I remember him saying that. I suppose the sheer physical scale of over a decades' worth of vinyl, given the amount he would've garnered, must've been enormous. Did he say what he did with them? Sold to a collector or something or just give them away? I'm sure for a man of Jules stature it wouldn't be hard to round up the required vinyl for a night, although I suspect the same as you, he'll play the fresher sounding mp3 versions he has instead, rather than having a root through to see if there's anything less obvious he'd forgotten. Imagine having a flick through those old tunes though? Heaven. The essential mix will be a very nice touch if it happens (providing those jingles and those tunes aren't there ). Imagine a banging BXR/Bonzai set from start to finish. We can but dream I suppose. I think he'll genuinely lose a lot of the enthusiasm he has for the scene, once he stops R1. The fact he's been studying law again, shows he wasn't just thinking of milking it till the work dried up, then retiring. He's obviously given it some thought. I'd assume he'll have to massively cut down on gigs if he starts law seriously again.
  18. That'd be class. His own favourites too, no suggestions, no asking for tweets, just his favourite slabs of vinyl and two hours straight through. Maybe even recounting his favourite live gigs from down the years, playing a clip or two. Jules being the ultimate professional he is though, I'm sure he'll not look for anything as self-indulgent as that, unless R1 tell him too or something. I'd say it'll be genuinely hard for him, when the final show comes around.
  19. Was just coming in to say I'd read an article on Sky's text service, but it's word for word what's in that article, same headline as well. In the showbiz section. I actually noticed the other day, weirdly, that Jules had put a pic up on twitter saying something like, 'ready to go on Radio1 again', and a pic of him posing beside a Radio 1 sign, and thought to myself 'That's weird for him to put a pic like that up. We all know where he works'. I'll try post it. May be just co-incidence, but it did strike me as odd at the time. https://twitter.com/#!/RealJudgeJules/media/slideshow?url=pic.twitter.com%2FzcPXtyt1 I'd say Jules will be taking this quite badly myself. The words in that article from R1 about needing to bring in new sounds to keep the younger listeners happy, will sting with him in particular (as they would anyone really), as I think he made a concious effort to try and appeal to younger listeners (thus alienating a lot of us) for the sake of his show with the more commercial sounds.
  20. Sad to see because of all the fond memories I have of Jules being such a part of Radio1, but not unexpected really. I'm sure even Jules would have to admit that. I had a train of thought that Jules was playing a lot of the chart bootlegs etc, to angle for a more mainstream show if the axe were to fall, but it seems that's not the case. Thanks for all the brilliant memories, Jules, but everyone has a shelf-life at somewhere like Radio1. In fact I'd say he's done very well to last as long as he has, with the dwindling popularity in trance, and emergence of other dance styles. That's something anyone would be proud of.
  21. That Arty remix of Kyau and Albert is awful, awful stuff imo. What's the new Mat Zo/Arty tune like? I assume there's some sort of classical theme to it?* Quite like Stereophonic. Something oldschool about it, it's big meaty bass I think. *Or maybe I'm just a bit thick, and it's a play on both their names. Just listening to it now, not sure what to make of it. Bit meh for me so far.
  22. Enjoyed that Tom, thanks. Organic city, I thought was class in particular.
  23. Nice one Tom, been a few weeks! Looking forward to this. Will give this a spin (do people still say that?) later on mate.
  24. Yeah, bit of a guilty pleasure this one for me. Loved Get Up (Go Insane) from them too. Cheesy as heel, but good fun. Reminds me of my yoof at teenyboppers discos.
