  1. There are quite a few cuts in this recording, and I'm honestly not sure that track 12 is from the show... it might be something that was on the tape when this was recorded.

Maybe Neuro can shed some light on this... i reckon this was your own recording that was once lost... am I right Tim?

Fuzzy, it seems to be right!

track n.12 is probably from somewhere ?, not JJ show. Even the quality of recording is different.

    Anyway, amazing stuff!

  2. Absolutely magnificent!

From the deep bottom of my heart I can confess I stopped breathing and could not believe my eyes this show is saved, restored and available.

Years and year I was hopping that somebody out there must possesses this first ever JJ´s BBC Radio 1 regular slot. I was in Britain back in the day, unfortunately I missed this broadcast and.... here it comes!

I hardly keep my eyes dry.

Gentlemen, thank you for this, thank you for all!

    Thank you a million!

I am going to download this pearl!

  3. Track on the 12 min mark is: Pizzaman - Gotta man

Following Progress Funk is: Westbam - Sunshine: Stretch n Vern Mix (Wkd tune CANED by Jules and Kelly in 97)

This sounds like what JJ was spinning mid 97

    Tomohawk77,

thank you a very chunky tune indeed :-)

Dr. Motte and Westbam - Sunshine (Stretch And Vern Goldene Else Remix) [Low Spirit Recordings]

And yes, U R right, it is highly probable the 1997 gig. If not it must have been the very late 1996, that I doubt since the selection of tunes refers to 97

  4. Graham Gold - Live @ Millenium - Club 97 - December 2000 (Only recorded half of this the tape randomly stopped).

    FULLY IDed!

    01. Halo Varga ‎– 'Future!' (Three N' One Presents 16C+ Remix) [Hooj Choons]
    02. 16C+ ‎– 'Under 4 Ever' (Gil's Spiritual Remix) [Additive]
    03. Thomas Penton - 'Sidewinder' (Original Mix) [inversus Records]
    04. Naimee Coleman - 'Love Song' (Brothers In Rhythm Remix) [Paragon Music Group/EMI Chrysalis/Chrysalis]
    05. Angel ‎– 'Kites' (Fade's Sanctuary Remix) (Part 1) (The Fade Mixes) [3 Beat Music]
    06. Dusted - 'Always Remember To Respect And Honour Your Mother' (Part One) (Paul Van Dyk Remix) [Go! Beat]
    07. JDS ‎– 'Nine Ways' (JDS Journey Mix) (The Remixes) [WAX]

Many quality tunes in there that came to me from oblivion! A brilliant session!

Thanks a lot for this upload

  5. Yet another update!

If I am not mistaken the order goes:

08 Perpetual Motion - 'Keep On Dancin' (Let's Go)' (Vocal Pressure Mix) [Positiva]
09 M17 - 'Rocking Down The House' (REMIX??????) [white label/Ruff On Wax Recordings]
10 Discodroids - 'Energy' (Bob Till Ya Drop Mix) [Tremolo]
11 Nc Tribe Feat. Sabine Kapfinger - 'Ya-Ho-He' (Rhythm Masters Mix) [ZYX Music]
12 Mark NRG - 'Brain Is The Weapon' [Tripoli Trax]
13 A.T.G.O.C. - 'Repeated Love' (Rollercoasters Pumped Up Mix) [Wonderboy]
    14 Bulletproof - 'Mistakes' (Knucklehead Remix)[Tidy Trax]
15 ID same as 'Deeper' from the Dave Seaman mix

In total 15 tunes, not 16. A quality mix though!

  6. Not very successful in the mystery tunes hunt though!

    these for sure:

001 Pizzaman ‎– 'DJ's Delight #2' (Babyloop EP) [Loaded Records]

008 Klubbheads - 'Cameron' (Cha Cha EP) [blue Records]

and some more just giving a hint for better hunters!

011 could be something similar to Mass Production feat Lenny Fontana - Do It To The Music

025 it has some riffs and vocals which apparently are in: Matthaus - Give It 2 Me released in 1999

027 this track is identical with that one Jules plays in his 1997 Kiss 100FM session with Alister Whitehead as a DJ Guest selector: Paul Uskin - Unknown / Paul Erskine 'Don't Stop'

  7. The JJ shows on Kiss were superb. When he moved over to R1 it definitely got watered down and as said, no DnB etc.

I remember his Friday night sets and he used to do a Saturday early evening set that was great. I recorded a lot of his sets back then but only have a few now - I'll see if I can dig them out.

Thing is, there were so many good sets you could easily use up 10x tapes a week and not have the chance to listen to them in time for the next weeks session lol

Funnily enough I was thinking back to a tune on this set which caused me to sign up on here that never got a release AFAIK:

    19. Paul Uskin - 'Unknown' [white label]

I thought it was Paul Erskine 'Don't Stop' but as it never got release it's a shame as its a good vibe tune! JJ liked this sort of tuneage on his Kiss sets. Not heard this tune in over 10 years so nice to reminisce!

    Hello JJ all the way,

U R right, Judge´s slots on KISS were phenomenal. Pity, there are a few of his KISS shows available throughout the internet. I recorded only bits and pieces that are here in the archive. Btw, if you can dig out some of his KISS shows and upload them it would be a treasure.

Paul Uskin (IDed as) Paul Erskine 'Don't Stop' - where did you find the info about it? Cannot find any relevant info about such a release.

I had many JJ Kiss shows taped from 88 -97. Fridays 7 -10 Sats 4 -7. The Classic house mastermix was a good slot, as well as mastermixes featuring all those acetates and white labels ... all good thrown out in a huge box FULL of other DJ tapes from the 90s ... still bite my fist today when I think about it. I specifically taped to keep as documents for a place this this lol ... he basically Tonged out after joining R1. 98 -99 had some good tunes, but moved across to other things after getting bored with Trance in 2000. I loved the 95 -late 97 period, as the club nights n London were many and varied. Jules then played all over the shop as circuit DJ. After R1 he stopped doing a lot good club nights as they simply couldn't afford him anymore ... I preferred the mix of pumping house, prog and the upcoming Trance sound as it was then, with tunes like Moonman's "don't be afraid" and many of the tunes off the Introspective of House comps, the best representation of what the sound was the, as well as the JDJ mixes.

Sorry to hear that - a sad story indeed! It would be a full treasury of cream if the tapes had not been lost! Btw, there was a d´n´b hype back around 1995-97. I agree that JJ would prefer d´n´b for some time and smuggled some tunes into his shows, gigs and compilations. I was in London from Autumn 97 to Spring 98 and there were many superb places to go - Camdan Palace, Cross and many others with Ministry on the top! Radio 1 landing catapulted Jules into elevator where the sky was a limit. It was not a nation DJ anymore, he became a global star since BBC was already broadcasting via ASTRA satellite and, if I am not mistaken, in five years´ time they launched net digital broadcast.

  8. I doubt it is then either, I have no idea who did the version Jules played, add it to the list of eternal mysterys sadly.

True, true. Is there a kind of list of mystery tunes on JJA somewhere? I have not scanned / browsed the archive so deeply so far.

From my point of view, however, these rather obscure unidentified tunes are a kind of urban myths around all big DJs and, for us, the neverending hunt for the "Holy Grail" that keep us going.

Btw, track. n. 28 from KISS 100 FM show above is:

The State of Bengal - 'Flight IC 408' [One Little Indian/Mango/Omni Records]

A beautiful d´n´b lick with Indian flavour!

  9. w

Yes, Same version played by jules on his mix on this release: https://www.discogs.com/Tong-Seaman-Jules-Carter-Essential-Mix-3/master/31722

Of course, I am blind. Sorry, Fanny Flow - 'Kiss Of Life' is track n. 18. before Paul Uskin / Paul Erskine 'Don't Stop (if it is the right track). Yet, however, I doubt this 1996/97 version of Kiss of Life is The Digital Blondes Mix, their synth sound is rather different from this remix. It could be that Jules had the only copy of this version, as you mentioned. :-) Any chance to get the inlay of Tong/Seaman/Jules/Carter ‎– Essential Mix 3 compilation, to obtain some more info about the tracks featured?

  10. Fanny Flow - 'Kiss Of Life' [stockholm Records]

I've listened to any versions there are samples or clips of on the net and it doesnt seem to be this track. in some places I've seen it listed as The Digital Blondes Mix, yet cannot find any trance of it anywhere. maybe Jules had the only copy of this version?

    Jason,

does the release you mentioned: Fanny Flow - 'Kiss Of Life' [stockholm Records] refer to the above KISS 100 FM show from 1997-02-xx? Kiss Of Life was released in 1995 regards to Discogs, and in the 1996 as a part of Manifesto Christmas Crackers in Digital Blondes remix.

Btw, has any got this Manifesto Christmas Crackers cassette tape? Great tracks there!I wish I could have a listen!

  12. I love Jules' comment about the Arizona tune... "could we be talking new genre, spaghetti western house?" :oddcake:

Also check his rather "arrogant" (but funny) comment on 'Blue Fear' at the 93:48 mark

Track. number 04. (first short excerpt of a track in the audio file) Arizona - 'The Swimmer' [white label] is actually: The Swimmer - Django [spirit]

Jules probably had this on white label first and could associate Arizona with "spaghetti western house" as FuzzY-LogiC mentions.

I have an cassette tape with some bits and pieces of Judge´s Friday BBC Radio One broadcast from 5th Dec 1997 and there he plays the identical track and introduces it as The Swimmer - 'Django'.

(Hopefully, I will soon be able to post it on JJA)

Moreover, no records about Arizona - 'The Swimmer' on web, or I am wrong?

  13. Okay, glad to be of service!

Track 16 is dba - Go With The Sun

    :-)

    Thanks

First, I wanted to mention a little TL correction about track n. 13 in this show that it is not by Daft Punk but it is: Pulp - 'Party Hard' (Tom Middleton Vocal Remix) [island Records] - however Jason had already done it this discussion thread. Anyway, an awesome track it is.

    16. dba - 'Go With The Sun' (The Total Eclipse Mix) [Dtox Records] - I guess it is the right remix.

Talking about dba, a marvellous track they produced earlier (in 1997?) called 3D on Lakota label has similar synth riffs as Go With The Sun

The whole show from Bar M is ecstatic!

  14. Dearest JJA friends!
This discussion list is now pretty long enough and every post worth reading! So many interesting remarks and quotes!
Immediately afterwards I learned that Jules is going to mix a special set for JJA with selections of tune the community can pick up, my mind blew! Soon after I became desperate though! Piles and piles of amazing of tunes to choose from, how to pick up only ONE.
Mr. Jules has been round for some 25-27 years or so, an immense portion of time, a countless portion of tunes.
What to choose? Something from hundred classics caned heavily on the dancefloors nationwide or something from hard-to-find ultra rare promos/whitelabels?

Moreover, a retrospective/introspective set or oldskool/contemporary selection of tunes?
Dearest Gentlemen/(ladies) if there are any - I GIVE UP my choice!
Guess what? The sky´s the limit! Whatever Mr. JUDGE JULES will pick up for this special commemorative concoction I know I will humbly and respectfully accept from the legend! I am already having goosebumps and shivering what the mix is going to be like!

To say a few more modest words, I would be on cloud 9 if Mr. JULES or somebody from the radio crew could dig up from the vaults some radio broadcast rarities and give a permission to expose those on JJA web (some old KISS 100 FM sessions, especially the last one before his departure to Radio 1, it MUST HAVE BEEN SO EMOTIONAL, or simultaneously his first ever regular show on BBC Radio One all in both in October 1997)
Thank to all of you! it is you, who are making the amazing house music history restored!
    Tom

Btw, my little donation done! Hope it will help a little.

  15. I have been searching everywhere for this mix and have landed here on this site. I am desperate to listen to the set but cannot download it as I have not enough postings. If it turns out to be the set I remember then it is one of the most memorable in the history of the essential mix, a true masterpiece. Hopefully I will be able to listen to it soon.

Hello Hart, although I am just a humble servant, I hope the Godfathers will not be offended if I say: welcome on aboard!

To download any audio file it should be enough to write one post, if I am not mistaken, to say hello, possibly something about you in a Members´ Discussion, Open Chat, New Member pops in to say Hello section. This is what I did and since then I have been enjoying the site! If there is a problem afterwards, please contact the moderators, or you can download this Julesy´s EM directly from my profile on Soundcloud.com

This EM is SPECIAL and also one of my favourites! Some amagizing and timeless tunes there!

By the way, other audio files with more Judge´s brilliant showcase as well as audio discussion threads worth checking!

  16. Tomas B. THANK YOU for this version of the emix! Was out clubbing when it was on so could only ever get the crummy sounding, incomplete versions... this is pitched faster, too... the right bpm!

The Amos tune is at the end of John Kelly's Mix on Introspective of House 3rd Dimension. I have the 10 inch record in my collection from the old days when I used to DJ in bars and basement clubs along Fulham Road in Chelsea (then known as the beach) in the late 90s. He finished his set with it @ Ministry in July 97 after doing 2 hours of pure pumpin club biz

Hearing him spin that Nevins v Run DMC in summer 97... who would have known how massive that track would become! Love the Jungle Brothers - Hitmen and Bambaata house mixes, too....

Never found this mix of De Boss: On the run, either...

The funky breaks track labelled as Prime Target, is it Johan S? Thats what i loved most about Jules, those obscure funky White Labels he always got hold of ... the groove it samples is from Mings Disco Machine, also sampled by Deborah Wilson on "Free" which Jules used on his JDJ mix in 93... funky. Love how he brings it in over Progress Funk's acid breaks.

The Mac Zimms tune is what uplifiting is all about...

Thank you Bongoloid77 for comments and amazing facts!

Mac Zimms tune is one of my favourites in this EM, uplifing and epic indeed!

"The Amos tune is at the end of John Kelly's Mix on Introspective of House 3rd Dimension. I have the 10 inch record in my collection" Have you got it with Martin Luther King´s speech? As I wrote earlier Amos released this track back in 1995. This Julesy´s EM version is a mystery for me. No records about bootleg version(s) on the web.
