Talking more rationally now...

I think it's good to see that Eddie will basically replace Fergie, but lets all hope he gets the chance to do his show, not some bits n pieces collection of sh*tty features & competitions.

Totally great news!! Really glad Fergie's been given the heavo-ho and Eddie gets his own slot. How good would it be if Eddie could follow Jules' shows? I doubt they'll do it, but it would make for great listening from both of them 8-)

Looks like the Residency is gone yeh, not bothered in the slightest as apart from Eddie i didn't check out any of the others regularly due to them being rather sh*t.

Hopefully this new mix show will be just that, another mix show no messing about and no loser DJs clogging up the timeslot, lets get some decent dance music on instead of breaks & handbag house

I'm not too surprised to see fergie go. He was originally signed to play Techno - a genre which was being heavily pushed by the media at the time, and Fergie was hailed as "the next big up and coming youngster".

Since then, Fergie has switched to more downtempo Tech-House and Techno, and is no longer that "up and coming youngster". To be honest, I think this could seriously damage Fergie's career. Duting his Hard House days, he was young, popular and highly rated but over the last few years, people have gone off him a bit, so with him vanishing off the radio, it will no doubt lower his profile even more. Look what happened to Danny Rampling - he was always in the DJ Mag top 40 DJ's list - as soon as he left Radio 1, he fell out of the top 100 - and lets face it, Danny Rampling is much higher profile, and more widely respected than Fergie.

Nice to See Eddie though - that hasn't come as much of a surprise really, and raises my suspicions even more that he's being groomed to become Jules's eventual replacement when Jules decides to hang up his headphones. I've suspected that for a number of years, and this makes those suspicions stronger.

Again though, it looks like another scheduling disaster. This was the ideal opportunity to shift Tim Westwood to a 4 hour Friday show so that the Trophy Twins could do a Saturday 5pm til 7pm slot, Jules a 7pm til 9pm slot, and Eddie with a 9pm til 11pm slot. That would have worked ideally, with the Trophy Twins starting funky, Jules playing a bit of funky still (perhaps 15-20 minutes or so to ease listeners in from the Trophy Twins show), and then Eddie banging it out after Jules has finished on his trademark banging style.

Instead, its the same s***ty format but with different DJ's.

As for Edith Bowman - I so wish Radio 1 would get female presenters that have personality. Edith Bowman's voice is so dull, and Sara Cox is the most annoying bint in the world. Zoe Ball was equally irritating. Jo Whiley is the best - and she's hardly a contender for "radio personality of the year".

Well done Radio 1 on replacing a poor working schedule with another poor working schedule.

What about Jon O'Bir? And where did he go by the way, he just disappeared off the airwaves after a while :?

He didn't swear, irritate people, or play urban music, therefore he was disqualified from the Radio 1 airwaves :(

See what you mean with Eddie following Jules, although I dont think he will. Jules and Tong are probably one of the radio's best voices and Eddie despite being a top fan and all that is not cut out to be as fluent on the airwaves.

Looking forward to his music though, cant wait. Only bad thing, doubt he will mix and scratch and all that like a set which will hamper his radio slots...

I know everyones changed/altered their style slightly since being on radio one, the amount of Phases Tongs been thru! but for fergie go from hardhouse to house/techno/breaks whatever seemed a lil bit odd, given there wasnt a specialist techno show but everyone else kinda catered for house breaks etc....

The Annie Mac 'request show' its gotta be hasnt it? wonder if this'll be the link Mark Goodier sunday request show!! are they hinting that dance anthems with epople requesting dj sammy isnt going down too well with some people? then about time in a sense, but giving Annie Mac two shows seems questionable.

Also changing her falgship show into this mixtape jobby will be interesting, I never saw the point of her doing what hershows been doing since launch anyhows, playing stuff that two or three other specialist shows are playing anyhows (rambles on, I think I'm getting a bit lost with this one!!)

Doing away with the Residency quickly for another essential mix style show will also be interesting.

as for colin & edith, to me a while to warm to them but I did kinda but got annoyed when Colin started presenting Poker, NFL and even Football on tv of recent.

Probelm I find with radio 1 is how many specilaits shows are just that really, I mean to one style such as fabio & grooverider, they just play Drum N bass, would be good to see primteim shows for trust techno, breaks etc... rather than too many shows covering all different genres of dance in general.

Basically itd be great if Jules could just bang it out trance n that, tong still do his thing, eddie just bang out techno, annie nightingale just breaks etc... but it'll never happen.

waffle...

Tong has a great radio personality really considering that radio presenting isn't a specialist job. He wouldn't sound out of place on a prime time slot doing normal presenting if he hadn't made it as a club DJ.

Jules doesn't really have a radio voice in my opinion. He has personality and a sense of humour though which make up for it. You can tell that a lot of his speech is from script, whereas a good radio presenter sounds natural.

Eddie may do scratching on his show - but I suspect that will be in a mix towards the end of his shows. He'd never really scratched on the radio before as a guest on Jules's show until Escape Into The Park, and then I was pleasantly surprised to hear him scratching.

I don't think Eddie's show will be just Techno though - he plays Trance and Electro-House too, so I dare say we'll hear some of that too.

Yeah, I agree Steve. Better still if they dropped Westwoods Saturday night show. After all he would still be left with his Friday night show.

It's the sound of "now" you get what i'm sayin homes?

LOL. it's just s*** if you ask me.

I'm very interested to hear Eddie's new show tho, bring it!

And Edith Bowman is a boring girl, she tells the worst storys in the world - we had her on URn after we'd been on Lunchtime Linkup and she was nice and all, but just bland.

Eddie encorporated the "altern8ive" mix part of his show at the initial stages of his residency and he also mixed a cd for cream titled just that on cd 1 of the cream ibiza comp. I suspect the theme of the show may follow...

If fergie is being ditched will eddie be on fri nights? Hope he is on sats, what a line up that would be!

Jules followed by Eddie :) Best mates aswell - hahaa!!

How "pally" are Jules and Eddie in real life? I know Jules always has him as a guets on his show, and in his diary a week or so ago, Jules said he invited Eddie and his girlfriend round to his Ibiza house one night after a gig, but I once read somewhere that Eddie ran Jules down as a DJ saying his mixing was s***, etc - is that true?

It'd be odd if Eddie said that about Jules if he was a mate.

I imagine they are good friends, probably just as good as Jules is with Paul Masteron, except Eddie lives in Wigan or somewhere so socialising it tough.

Be very strange if Halliwell said such thing about Jules. I know Eddie is naturally talented and I asked Jules before about this. Jules had his management snap Eddie up after seeing him in Gatecrasher, and to be fair I didnt know what eddie was like until Jules bigged him up time after time on his R1 shows, especially with guest lists etc.

Despite Westwood not getting the boot, its generally a good move all-in-all and Radio 1 are still showing a commitment to dance at a time where RnFB is taking/has took over the mainstream. Eddie following Jules would be the icing on the bun, but I think Radio 1 have done a good shake up here.

Maybe next time we see a thread like this we will be seeing massive changes...Tong going? Dangerous going? Jules????

I don't think Tong will go until he retires. He still has the best listening figures out of all the dance DJ's, is the longest service dance DJ, and is pretty much the face of their dance shows - I can't see him going.

Dave Pearce is the same too. Dance Anthems isn't a specialist dance show as such - its more of a light hearted dance show aimed at the commercial and semi-commercial side of the dance scene. Whilst Dave doesn't appeal to us "serious" DJ's and clubbers, he does appeal to your average "wanna go out on the lash tonight lads?" kind of audience.

As for Jules - well, who knows? He has the second highest listening figures after Pete Tong, and is probably the most versatile of all the dance DJ's as he incorporates so many genres. He is 40 though, so it'll be intresting to see if Radio 1 want a younger successor in the future. The style of his show has changed a lot over the years too, so it'll be interested to see how many of his "hardcore" fans put up with the funky house. I rarely listen to the firts hour of his shows now - and I think many have gone that way. That must surely affect listening figures.

IMO, Jules would be the hardest to replace out of all the dance DJ's though. Lots of DJ's play Tong's style, lots of DJ's can host a commercial dance show, but Jules's taste in music is quite varied, and I can't think of any other DJ that is as versatile as him.

Yeh i wud agree that jules is very hard to replace, wh could u ever imagine being his sucessor?!

I started listening to Jules's programme on a regular basis in 2001 as l liked what l heard which was a variety of different genres.

However l have to agree that Jules is perhaps playing too much funky house these days and imo should play it for 45 mins of his show.

When he changed to the later time of 7-9 he said it would enable him to play more banging stuff but l think the reverse has happened as he seems to be playing less of it not more.

Another reason l liked the show was because you heard some really good quality tunes that weren't being played on the other daytime shows. Of late alot of the tunes Jules is playing during the first hour of his show are also heard too much on other shows.
