Stuart F
11/11 - Jules introduces Budge The Judge, giving you the chance to pit your tune of choice against the Judge and see if you can budge him off air! Interesting! This replaces the Old Skool Classic vote from this Saturdays show.

Briggsy
Whack the Westwood would have been a better feature. I'd have quite happily paid £1.50p per text if it meant someone gave him a good punch in the face live on air! I might have to take out a mortgage to pay off my phone bill mind

Stuart F
TBH can't see the point in this new feature which means we are still left with only 4 tunes in The Sat Night Mix. I think the Sat Night mix is now one tune longer at 5 tunes. In the old format, the old skool track began at 8:30 with the Saturday Night Mix straight after at around 8:35pm. I noticed on Saturday though that Budge The Judge was done and dusted for 8.30pm when the Sat Night Mix begun so good to see a slightly extended Saturday Night Mix
Chrissie Brown
Thanks for pointing that out to me Stuart. Thats certainly an improvement.
Briggsy
But the funky nonsense still ran up to 8.10pm, meaning we had two less Trance tunes, and then with Mason - Exceeder for the "budge the judge" track, that was another Trance tune thrown out of the window - so the supposed "banging" hour from 8pm til 9pm still had three funky tunes in it. All I want to hear is funky house from 8pm til 9pm, half an hour of trance from 8pm til 8.30pm, and then a 30 minute banging mix. Leave the features for Chav Anthems on a sunday night. Dave Pearce's show is meant to be a "come down" from the weekend, so that should have features to keep people in good spirits. Jules's show is supposed to be a "serious" show for showcasing new music and getting them in the mood to go out, but its now being filled with novelty features, too much funky house and dodgy bootlegs House music - Pete Tongs show Trance = Jules show General Dance & banter = Dave Pearce. Thats the format we used to have, but each week, Jules's show is starting to sound more and more like Dave Pearce's show - only without the anthems. Quadrant
Good points Sir Briggsy, on the previous page... But as much as we want it t be, I wouldnt classify Jules as a Trance DJ now at all
Briggsy
Good points Sir Briggsy, on the previous page... But as much as we want it t be, I wouldnt classify Jules as a Trance DJ now at all  Well, thats very true. In all honesty, I wouldn't say Jules has ever been a through-and-through Trance DJ - he used to cater for all things "banging". WHat I should have said was that from 8pm til 9pm, we want to hear all things banging, but instead, we're hearing Funky/Electro stuff running into the second hour. Quadrant
Maybe the problem is that we are purist House and Trance fans and that just isn't catered for anymore. I think you're spot on Jules always catered for things "banging", and although I reckon he is at his best at that, I always preferred his slightly softer sound and trancier mixes from back in the day. And those quality underground House tracks he'd pick up and play at the start of his 5pm show... we don't get that anymore.
bigsteve
Strange choices of tunes that get selected. They're sort of a few months old. eg Last week (25/11) was Life Less Ordinary - a tune Jules played a lot recently. Why does it need resurecting so close to it being played a lot? Its a great tune, but it would be better hearing it again in a year or two's time, not a couple of months later. Yet another 5/6 minutes of the show wasted imo

I prefer the "Gone but Not Forgotten" feature.
Briggsy
Jules basically said in his diary last week that all these new crowd interaction features are the idea of his new producer (well, fairly new). The idea being that the best way to keep listeners is to let them feel involved with the show. Unfortunately, the idea of having a very slim chance of a "shout out" on the radio out of a few million listeners doesn't keep me tuned in each week. The same as loads of guestlist competitions each week don't make me tune in. If I like a DJ enough to want to see him, i'll have already bought my tickets in advance. I wouldn't risk leaving it til the last minute on the off-chance that I could win tickets on radio 1. Radio 1 are going down the local radio route now - with Jules and Eddie's show. They're trying to do competitions and get people involved. For me, Jules, Tong and Eddie are about showcasing specialist music. Dave Pearce's show is the light hearted show to ease you out of the weekend. I'm all for it in that show, but not Jules, Eddie and Tongs. Unfortunately, the old days that we know where the dance shows are "specialist" are long gone. They're opting for a wider audience by aiming it at the general public that don't love it, but like it enough to listen to. Why have a specialist audience of 2 million listeners, when they could make it more mainstream and appealing to a certain age group and opening those figures up to 4 million. I think thats the way its gone sadly. Its all about money and statistics, and not what the listener wants.
bigsteve
As Jules mentioned Budge the Judge in his diary it suggests that he has had a few emails about it. Its obviously something that there is a fair bit of dislike to, so why do R1 persist with these tacky things? Briggsy, you're spot on about the chances of getting your shout on air or win anything (although tbf I did win the Listen Again comp a while ago). There must be a huge amount of calls to R1 during the show and only a few get on air or win anything. Personally, I would rather it be a 2 hour show of constant tunes without hearing drunk 14 year olds screaming down the phone.

Aza
Wondered that too Chrissie. Maybe can guess by how many bloody txts and calls they get. But the same with tv figures, I wonder how they do it..? Remember a while back someone on the tele said so many people watched the footy and guessed a number at half time when everyone went to make a cuppa, electricity increased or something like that...
