  1. It's was about 6-8 weeks ago now, but around XMAS/New Year time I had a classic lads night gathering - with food, beer, PlayStation and, music! We had a variety of music playing, but when asked "how's the mixing going" and "what's your set up like now" I demo'd my Traktor S4 stuff.

A FIFA tournament was started and I took to the decks to provide the audio entertainment. I'd been working on a few things and had a few tunes up my sleeve, so to cater for a range of musical tastes I made this (only just uploaded it to my site today and gave it a title):

    Fusion

  2. Aww what! How did I miss / not hear about this?

Gutted as would've loved to have met and hooked up with all you guys, esp with the opportunity to have a mix (something which I find a hard time to do these days) :(

Have always wanted to meet up with all you, think there may be another occasion?

Were you playing on decks too?

Also could you upload to skydrive so that it's easier to download and it'd probably let you download all as one zip?

  3. I recently shared a few mixes with folk and was informed they prefered the more uplifting stuff. I was asked if I could put a special mix together to show case how I'd play/approach an uplifting set.

I spent some time putting together some of my all time faves, together with a few requests and put this together. Thought I'd share this with you all to provide a few classic memories, a bit of entertainment and also see what you think?

  4. I tend to agree with the records changing but so's the technology... I have experienced this and found myself having to learn how to loop for example and get the tunes working for you rather than you working to them.

Each to their I guess, but it also does offer you more flexibility and creativity...

  5. Have forgot about that Pulse, Biringham Essential mix in 1999...

A great set that was and also a very good crowd :) Think I'll listen back to that again.

There's quite a few of these sets for me, so will have to have a bit of a think, but one's that stick out are; Qontact, Homelands and Creamfields 2002.

  6. Apologies I haven't been able to get back to you all on this.

Thanks for all your responses and I appreciate you checking it out :)

Used to really rate Mat so the early stuff featured here still appeals, although I think he lost his mojo a few years back.

Not sure if you couldn't fit it in or deliberately left it out mate but Soliquid "Music Is For Rich People" (Mat Zo Remix) would be right up there in my favourites from him

Personally I'm not too fussed on this track and chose to leave it out...

For me 26 tracks represents both good and bad, I'm with Tom his earlier stuff was proper stonking, Price Of Oil is one of my faves.

...following on a bit from my response to Tom, 26 tracks was my idea of an approximate 2hr set, which I thought woudl do Zo justice. I did think of a CD1 and CD2 approach and may have been able to squeeze in a few more tunes, but just went for a full one off set :)

2 notable tracks omitted in my opinion are:

Activa Presents Solar Movement - Eclipse (Mat Zo Remix)

Mike Foyle & Mat Zo - Simple Things

Left these out as I wanted to try stay to Zo's original artist tracks as possible - utilising say only a handful of remixes and I chose one's that really 'do it' for me.

I will give this a listen as I am unfamiliar with many of the tracks in the mix.

I've downloaded this mix but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, sorry :(

Thank you, again, both! Have you had chance to check it out - any thoughts?

    Definitely worth downloading this sirs!

Sir Aza I've said it before but your mixing is very tight

Quadrant, as always, genuinely appreciate the most noble words! I shall continue in - hopefully - serving future mixes for your listening and entertainment!

  7. Hi all,

I've had a few mix projects on lately and found that I haven't had much chance to mix some of trancers collected over the past year or so. This mix attempts to showcase them in a nice structured set and hopefully provides you with some good listening. I felt there was some real peaches in there and certainly enjoyed putting this together. Hope you enjoy and as always, would love to hear your thoughts...

  8. Thanks Quadrant!

What a pleasant surprise to see this post and mix resurface. With all the great weather we've had the past few days it's given me the urge to listen back to this again.

I remember we spoke on PM about this mix, too - so again many thanks for taking the time to check it out and of course share your feedback :)

  10. For some time now I've been an admirer of Mat Zo's productions. I find his trance sound and style most unique and for want of a better word, beautiful.

About a year ago I posted a thread here of my amazement with some his tunes and talent, especially at such an age. Anyhow, since that time I've always wanted to showcase a tribute mix utilising his tracks; I've done this with other artists who've had a major influence on my musical interests as a DJ for example, Marco V, Darren Tate, Cosmic Gate and Steve Murano.

I compiled a spectrum of my fave Mat Zo tracks and structured them in to a mix - not necessarily in order of preference, but in a way that works best for me as a typical set.

For those who aren't too familiar with Mat, but love trance, I insist you check this out as it was a real pleasure and joy to mix; the tracks feel expertly crafted and beautifully constructued - easy to mix - and of course his sounds of piano and synth always resonate with me. For the rest, the tracklist should hopefully speak and offer an easy incline to check out :)

As always, it's appreciated if you check my mixes out and more importantly to me, feedback most welcome :)

  11. I'm going to eBay for mine! :)

Or, if you fancy, grab a few freebies :)

Over the years I've done a few takes on these style sets if you and anyone else would be interested in checking them out:

Or, of course, one of latest and probably one of the most special ones; The Complete A To Z Of Aza

Been feeling rather reminisce myself of late and been checking a few of these out again. I love to share all my mixes with you on here so thought this may be a prime time to do so :)

  12. There are so many amazing tunes that i've associated with Jules over the years - yet he played quite a few average tunes in comparison. I was expecting Green Martian - Industry and Brainbug - Nightmare as dead certs. The Gladiator theme is a weak tune. Rock Your Body Rock definately wasnt one of the strongest or most supported tunes that Jules played that year. The 2nd hour started well - it sounded quite fast and energetic, and the mixing was fairly decent - then it slowed right down, the tunes became average, and the mixing was very 'slapped in' and careless. Very much like a typical present-day Jules club set :(

The set was also the kind of style that Jules would play now - rather than the old 'banging' Jules. I think if we'd have heard an 'older style' Jules set, we'd have heard things like Green Martian - Industry, Rockafellas - Da Boss Track, Altitude - Excession, etc.

    I agree, too , Briggsy.

Had this at the back of mymind and been giving this some thought...

I do like that Gladiator track and think it was more of personal selection Jules rather than a classic for he and his sets. If you recall, he did do his own take on the track and even said on air he was basically saddened the sample didn't get cleared, but he still supported Dave Lambert's take on it. I love both of them...

Tunes for me that I would've expected to hear:

    - PPK's Resurrection (Jules IMO discovered this tune and if I recall correctly, Tried and Tested it and played it all year round.)

    - Push's The Legacy (Jules cained this too for a while and think it was the only time in the history of his show where he 'Tried and Tested' a track twice!

There are many to choose from, but would've liked to have heard a Darren Tate track (aside from Angelic), perhaps Jurgen Vries' The Theme or The Opera Song. I remember a lot of hype where that was an Unknown for some time and I bought both on White each for £8 (I think). Eventually got slightly 'commercialised', but I know Jules discovered and established these. I used to love where he would just get tracks sent to him from artists on white labels, only to see them emerge with who was behind them and ultimately help get them signed.
