  1. I agree with Simon. I can't actually name a single track off the top of my head from last year. I listened to an Armin set yesterday from Amnesia and apart from that remix of Out of the Blue I didn't recognise anything, but then again nothing really stood out. Can't say I like the remix, just another trance classic butchered with the sound of what passes for trance today.

Oh, the track he did with Sophie Ellis Bextor was on it (but I only know that cos she PA'd, and he introduced her and the track! lol)

  2. Excellent stuff Craig, and I'm sure a quite a few of my mates would agree that your sound is far better than what is around these days

Listened to Amber Sky and Lost Witness tracks first and they're both great! Rendition is a cracking tune and would certainly make me smile hearing that in a club. Again, I can hear my mates asking me with excitement what the hell that tune is if I was playing it at their houses. Reminds me of the V One sound...

Can't really comment on the production side of things as it's not something I've ever got into (yet), but I really like what you're producing. Keep up the good work and don't give up!!!

  3. Ferry's always been my favourite producer. Saw his 6 hour set in August 2007 at Gods and to say he tore the place apart that night is a massive understatement. Playing all his classics and the best new stuff at the time finishing with Adagio for Strings with his remix of The Sweetest Dream as the one more tune. He's always been one of my favourite DJ's of the last 5-6 years or so.

Can't really say he's been at any clubs round my area this year. Someone needs to sort this out lol ;)

  4. Hi Greg. Looks to be that it's this phone that is at fault. Though I like it mostly. I have two mobiles. This one a Nokia 5230 on pay as you go. Symbian. The other a Sony Ericsson Vivaz on contract. Symbian. The Nokia just works for me when writing. I can write a novel in 5 minutes. Slight exaggeration maybe :-) The Sony is brilliant for for a bit of photography, or shooting a movie. Very good in other ways to. I like it. Your HTC Desire. Probably one of the best phones out there, if not thee best alrounder. As I said to Number 2 looks like it's my Nokia that's at fault. Though is ok for most of the time. Thought it likely to be my phone causing problems on occaisions. But was just curious. See that you thought last years BB was good. Didn't watch the beginning of it. But checked it out after a while. Wasn't sure about it. But gave it a chance, and it really took of big time. Many people have said that it was the best ever BB. I haven't watched most of them, can only remember bit's of one years ago. But I thought it was facinating. Thought there was no way that this years BB, even though the last, and the producers would pull out all the stops, could be anywhere near as good. Didn't watch the beginning. But gave it a chance. If you haven't been watching recently then you're definately missing out. The housemates didn't look that interesting. But it's all been going crazy in there. The producers - BB have been manipulating in fairly clever ways, just as they did last year. It's come good Greg. There's so much going on. The housemates have livened up. Big time. Maybe check it out? See what you think now. Have to get ready to go to work soon. Didn't feel the need to sleep tonight. Though sometimes I really love my Zzzz's. Just going to write a short post on topic Anybody interested in Big Brother. Seems most member's aren't. Good to meet you Greg

    Hi bud

Yep, I've been really happy with the HTC, the new Android 2.2 firmware gives it some great new features including HD recording and the ability to save apps to your memory card.

Someone I work with has said this years has been great, but I've not watched it at all since the first night. I did watch last night's celebrities going in though and will probably watch it now through pure curiosity. lol I used to not bother with the openings though and get into it once a few people had left. I couldn't stand hearing them all shout over each other!! Maybe that's where I went wrong this year, I got in too early! Josie must have felt a bit awkward having Preston and Chantelle go in first considering they just sort of broke up their 'marriage' lol

Good to meet you bud :-)

  5. I almost agree with this, but if I think back, drugs have been a massive part of this scene since day one, despite many NON drug takers saying it's not all about the drugs, etc, it's NOT all about the drugs, but they do play a large part in it. The drugs these days too, they are shit by comparison, people are drinking a whole lot more now than ever before, and drug users are drinking aswell, something that never used to happen much.

And there's always been records that sample a memorable clip, that will be remembered the next day above all else. Even throughout the rave era!

    Urban hype - Trip to Trumpton/NRG - I need your lovin/Hyperlogic - Only me/Smart e's - Sesames treat

I remember us all talking about this one, back in 1994, actually waiting for it to come on the next week!! It's not even very good! It went down exceedingly well at the time tho. :) Like amazingly well!!! :) when the sample finally kicks in! And I still remember the first time we heard it!! :rubbish:

The drugs changed though, pills used to be pretty much everyones drug of choice and the euphoria has gone....just like trance. Cocaine, ketamine and alcohol and GB...now people have moved on to plant food (meow) now...anything to just generally get into a mess seems to be what people expect from the scene now.

  6. I remember the Gatecrasher bombscare back in 1998, when Jules was on last and around 5.15, he turned the music off and (very professionally, I must add) asked everyone to quietly and orderly leave the club through the exits. Everyone did exactly as they were told.

Fifteen minutes later after standing in the cold, everyone piled back in for the last half hour and I vividly remember him playing the Vengaboys Up & Down...cheesy as hell, but we all went a bit mad to it...

  7. Some really good points in this thread sirs. However, I just think of one thing:

Jules, regardless of external influences over the years, has sparked an incredible and gloriously colourful musical journey for myself and thousands of others for those fantastic tracks in days gone by. It allowed me to explore all sorts of musical avenues - hell, I'm still after half the stuff he used to play. That's what I will always remember him for.

And the fact we have an archive here on the web with all the audio from the good old days is testament to that. Long live the Judge of old -_-

I hope he pulls it out of the bag for Hallowe'en as I fear I might be saying the same before long. Even then though, I'd never call Jules shit...he's been a fantastic all-rounder (DJ/Producer/Radio DJ/Promoter) and I owe him a massive debt for so many memorable, great nights.

Quadders, we posted pretty much the same comment within 3 minutes of each other, but in different threads....now I'm scared.

  8. Any idea what his user name was?

When you think of all the obscure tracks from his sets from years ago we STILL are trying to id, and he can just walk down to his vaults and dust them off, and stick them on a 1210! Must be heaven.

Must be a flattering to know also, that there are still people dedicated to keeping his legacy from his golden era alive.

If only he'd pay more heed to our current opinions.

If only he still had them and hadn't sold them all

JJ is bigger than Pete Tong in radio show respect IMO. Who's running the website for all the Essential Selections then? Tongy may have the contacts, the influence and the 'Essential' motif, but JJ brings the kids in in droves and he can actually mix, without the need for ableton!

Fecking superstar DJ's...there's just no telling them is there?!!?! :D

  9. I doubt he reads it, and recently he's got a bit numb towards anyone disliking anything anyway. Putting it down to 'people love to hate him' and he ' always gets a good reaction in the clubs with ' whatever tune. But then again, he doesn't see it from our end. The kind of reaction OTHER DJ's are getting from the floor end, the conversation between paying clubbers, and boards such as this.

He is still filling his club isn't he. Just mostly with deaf wankers maybe.

He's taking a pretty poor attitude just fobbing people off with that line, it's an easy way out. I think most clubbers get too f***** out of their faces nowadays to care...drop in a quick sample of something they'll recognise over a dirty filthy electro house track (as a lot of stuff - not just Jules' - seems to be these days) and they'll be happy. I've struggled to get on board with this filth sound that Jules has embraced.

The few clubbers out there that remember Jules riding the Unicorn on that late 1999 Mixmag cover as he was crowned best DJ, simply don't find it good enough anymore. Since I've been on this board, there's been a topic every now and again from a regular saying Jules has been shit for too long and they won't go and see him again. One of his last sets at Godskitchen got slated on here (I actually enjoyed it though lol)

  10. I specifically saw Tristan D do a set alongside Dave Pearce, and Judge Jules and at that time Tristans set was the first one on and could easily have been picked as the best Hard Trance set, Daves was how you'd expect, and jules' was quite good that night, this year it was in a small Brighton venue. Tristan did not play anything even slightly commercial, or well known. His set was as Jules' should have been really. However I have heard that he can then in the next breath play a dire set, I have not seen him enough to say..

He's also appeared on Tiesto's Club Life a few weeks ago, but not sure if this was for a guest mix.

  11. I would say i blame Tristan, but Jules is letting him be his assistant!! This must be how Jules wants it to be...

Hopefully he still glances at this board from time to time and takes heed! Unless Trissy reads it for him. Hopefully they'll split soon and we can label it 'A lovers trist' hahaha (fetches coat)

Oh I miss the days when Patterson sorted his tunes out!

  12. I don't think Jules will go anywhere...or Tongy for that matter...They both still have major influence (especially interesting to read about Pete Tongs power to control nights in Ibiza, if it's true anyway!) and Jules has a very busy club night in Ibiza that lots of newcomers to the dance scene no doubt attend at some point!

I don't really know what Jules is playing at recently. He does seem to have either lost total interest or is being given some very bad PR advice from someone (and I think there's another thread about that ;-)). I've not seen him play out in a while, but when people have slated him I've enjoyed his sets bar the dodgy bootlegs There has always been a place in Jules' sets for those though! :-D Bootleg quality died on its arse with the advent of mp3's years ago though.

I'd love to hear Jules get back to his production heights of The Clergy and Hi-Gate...I'm guessing 'Trissy' is not the new Paul Masterson though. Hope he isn't floating around on Pimps & Whores night when I go.

  13. The final series' housemates were poorly chosen as they were a few years ago (not last years, that was great). I only missed about 4 series in total though and feel like I've watched the best ones. Will be sorry to see it go when I think of the better years, but reckon it'll be back in some shape or form on another channel anyway.

  14. Have they indeed? Glad I raided their archives before they did that!

I've got this, but it exceeds the 128mb upload limit so I can't upload it directly to the board....pretty sure one of the admin has it tucked away pending upload though.

EDIT: Just checked the shoutbox on mixriot and apparently they have been told by the BBC to take down BBC-related content, possibly because they are an American site and charge by subscription for the services. Hope that's the only reason, as I'd hate to see anything happen to this board!
