  1. Apologies if this has been done, or if it's the wrong forum (mods feel free to move if so).

Right, this is the thread where you can air your dirty dance music related laundry without reprisal. Anything you feel guilty about, or opinions that go against the grain. Remember, this isn't to cause rows, or offend, just a sanctuary for your guilt. I'll start.

I owned, and played out in a nightclub, Dj Jurgen, and a Venga Boys remix many moons ago. Jules was also playing them. No excuse though.

I think Rui Da Silva 'Touch Me' is one of the finest pieces of dance music ever written.

Sasha and Digweed's 'legendary' sets produced some of the most boring, overrated crap known to man.

Jules has never produced one properly 'great' tune, either solo, or with Hi-Gate.

Again, none of these are to cause friction, just my opinion.

I've played a Luminar club in the Boro - and absolutely hated it. I played Liquid in around 2001-2 time-ish the money was good though, but i was constantly being told by the Manager cum promoter to "play more vocal, you're going to hard" (at the time i was playing Mauro Picotto "Like This, Like That") , "ere mate, throw some R&B on at about midnight". Its funny how these things stick on your mind when Djing. Needless to say, i got pissed off, and never played there again.

Laptop djing IS the way forward peeps. Not even the new CDJ2000's can compete with it. I'd still rather use Traktor/Serato and a set of Technics than CDJ's. I dont know why this really is either. I suppose its the feel of vinyl. I wish we could go back to vinyl, it's collectable, not everyone had the same tunes, and it sounds better. I miss lugging my record boxes to gigs and trying to stop tonearms from skipping.

I've never understood "progressive". Back in 2002-2003 when it seemed everyone was playing it, i didnt get it then. To me, progressive equals boring. I know a few on here like "progressive", but i just dont get it, i have tried, but cannot get into it. Sorry if i have caused offence, but thats just my opinion. Dance music isn't supposed to be cool, trendy, or arty, you're supposed to dance to it. So with that, i'll continue to play out tunes like Freemasons "Watchin" and Junior Jack "Stupidisco". :silenced:

Fragma "Toca Me" is STILL the best dance record made. It's not deep or meaningful i know, just a nice melody and some nice sing-a-long vocals. A track with so many great memories, it'll be with me forever.

Tiesto's mix of "Silence" was not as good as the Airscape mix. Well, it wasn't. I'm not saying it's cack, far from it, the Tiesto mix is very good, but the Airscape mix had more urgency and more euphoria/rush about it.

Dance music isnt as good as it was 10 years ago. Am i just getting old or is it really not as good as what it was? Personally, i blame mp3's. I've aired this view before. Nowadays anyone can make a tune with now physical hardware, send it to a label who'll think "we'll bung it beatport, if it sells, it'll go on to a major and make some money, if it doesn't, it hasnt cost us much...NEXT". Whereas 10 years ago, you had to know how to use hardware, send the demo off to a record boss who had to decide if it was good enough for a 500 Test Press run. If it was, promo it etc etc. Thats gone these days, and thats why i feel, music maybe isnt as good as what is used to be.

The Judge Jules Clubbers Guide To...Cd's were the best compilations. They were, especially the 2000 one. It was bloody epic!

    I'll stop now....sorry.

  2. EDIT: And if I hear La Roux - In For The Kill in any dance set ever again, i'll scream. Its a crap tune anyway and massively over-rated.

    :o

That tune was and still is immense in its Skream Remix form. It's a pivotal record for a scene man, i love it!

  3. whilst i hate the mashups he played, at least he's now remixing tunes rather than mashing them, so he has made a step forward i think. I think Jules is heading into retirement isnt he? playing the luminars/first leisures clubs....its a bit like when a footballer plays prem football all his career and descends the leagues until he's 42 and playing for someone like Shrewsbury Town.

  4. i've got a sleeve and collar done now, and i want more. It's stupidly addictive, but expensive. I love tattoos. For women, its a bit different, you have to be careful what you get and where. I know one girl who has a nice floral design running down her spine, and it looks fantastic. I dont like "tramp stamps/butt horns" (the obligitory tribal at the base of the spine) or cartoon characters, names are also a no-no unless its your children.

Overall, i say go for it. The age old "it'll look shite when your 60" doesnt hold anything for me, hopefully when i'm that old i'll have lost enough marbles to even care what people think of me at that age.

  5. she's alright, but for me, the queen of clubs is Kate Lawler....I just go for blondes over brunettes anyway generally

    katelawler.jpg

Shes actually a pretty good DJ....and yes, she can mix aswell. My tastes these days are very much on the house tip, i sort of saw her initially by accident about 2-3 years ago (i think she warmed up for Mark Knight or someone like that). At first i refused to believe she was mixing and simply miming - she wasn't though, and she was very good.

Ps. she also got a great ass!

    :oddcake:

  6. a major gripe of mine is when clubs make you wear "shoes" as opposed to trainers. You pay enough to get in, so why should you be told what to wear? Everytime i've been out in trainers, my feet and ankles have thanked me for it, i'll never understand this whole shoes thing. It must stem from the "shaz & tracey" clubs where the sole purpose is to pull.

  7. Apple just rocks. I remember 10 years ago, everyone thought Apple were shit, i was rocking an iMac back then when i was into desktops. People said they would just fade away. Then all of a sudden, they became cool around 2004-05. I think their products at this time (those funky pink and white adverts, remember?) were very slickly advertised and marketed.

Then the price of all their products just went sky high - so much so, i cant really afford their products anymore. I really really want a MacBook, but cant justify or really afford £800-1000 for one, i'd love an iPod touch, but for a 32gb you're looking at £230. I really want a iPhone too, but £45 a months contract is just too steep.

Look at like this, 5 years ago, Creative had the mp3 player market - the iPod now has, Nokia had the phone market, iPhone is now the leader....they're starting to dominate everything!

  8. the trouble with IT these days is, the bubble burst on it i'd say about 10 years ago - that was the time to get into it, and secondly, theres kids that are like 10 years old that know computers like the back of their hand. It's quickly becoming the new "media studies".

  9. Right, i've had enough of Audacity and its "Sorry, Audacity has stopped working" messages (thus resulting in my losing my mix. I want to use different software now. It's just way too temperamental for me to use. What recording software does everyone on here use? Can anyone recommend me some? I'm only going to be recording my mixes with it, so it doesnt really matter how basic it is.

  10. KSheehan, its easy to setup, you get everything you need. Duo is basically a scaled down version of Pro. The sound card is the same only less inputs/outputs. You still get all the beatgridding/looping/some effects etc. Once you get started, and learn it, you will love it, believe me. DVS systems, are the way forward. People hate on them, but they've never used them...
