  1. Westwood is there so that Radio 1 can be seen to be doing their bit for the environment. When Westwood comes on, radio's go off - and it saves the UK a fortune in energy bills. Rumours are that he's having new sound effects created as we 'speak' - the thundercracks and bombs will go, and will be replaced with the sounds of cracking icebergs and the crackling of forest fires.
  2. If Digital Society isn't on, then there's a good chance that "Forward" is. Its in the old venue that Digital Society started off in (Stinkys Peephouse) and has a reputation for having a good atmosphere. Its run by Kane Nelson and Phil Metcalfe, and so far, they've had some decent line-ups.
  3. Perhaps Simon Cowell realised it was a crap idea after all!
  4. Jordan Suckley is an excellent DJ - he has immense natural skill (scratching, EFX tricks, the use of 3/4 decks, etc) that is up there with Eddie Halliwell and the late Barry Connell (in fact, he's from the same artist agency and was good friends with both of them too). He also has a good ear for tunes - and is responsible for the management of the Goodgreef record label and podcast. The only slight concern is that if his latest productions are anything to go by, he seems to be going a little cheesy/commercial and incorporating that dreaded Swedish House Mafia-esque sound into his tunes. If we get to see the Jordan Suckley from a couple of years ago, then expect a bit of everything - particularly some really full-on, fast, 'boshy' stuff that Jules' show has lacked for the past few years. Hopefully that's the side of Jordan Suckley that we'll hear on Radio 1.

hahaha! Oh dear! Seperated at birth from Graham Souness?
  7. Must admit, i'm not a huge fan of vocals - but the one tune that I did like and play in my sets with male vocals was Kuffdam & Plant feat Terry Ferminal - The Ones We Loved (Original Mix). Can't help much more than that i'm afraid - vocal tunes aren't really my department.
  8. Adele was unsigned until she was discovered by her record label. She had a Myspace profile, and used to put all of her songs on there - and her record label liked what they heard and signed her up. Will Young didn't come from X Factor either Tom - you're right about Steve Brookstein. He recently played at Costa Coffee or somewhere similar in Birmingham to a whopping crowd of about 30 people. The lack of crowd was blamed on a "mix up with promotion and dates" or something along those lines. I blame it on him being crap
  9. I think its safe to say though that, like the X Factor, the winner will be poular for a year, and then after that, they'll vanish. The X Factor has been on our screens for 10 years now, yet the only winners still lurking around are Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke - and they're not exactly setting the world alight at the moment. Like Cheese said, you will get genuinely good DJs that have tried the hard way for years but struggled to break through, and you'll also get the numpties that are clueless. Like the X Factor, the numpties will go out early, and the good ones will stay til the end. At the end of the day, clued-up clubbers aren't stupid. We've had "celebrity" DJs before such as Rebekah and Jakki Degg, but they never get decent bookings because people realise that just because they had their tits out on Page 3 of The Sun, they don't make good DJs. The only two celebrity DJs that have "made it" are Kate Lawler and Howard Donald - and that's because they are actually good DJs (plus Howard Donald was already DJing before he joined Take That and hasn't needed to use his Take That fame to help his DJing career).
  10. Ah the Pet Shop Boys! They were superb in their day! Saw them live in the Summer. They were spot on. The 80's and early 90's was the best era for chart music in my opinion. Beats the crap that is in the charts these days.
  11. Never had any issues when playing tracks from the hard drive - but have had issues with flash drives.
  12. No, he used to be really good (as both a DJ and producer) - but he's another DJ that has suffered from DJ Mag Poll syndrome, and now plays cheesey rubbish and "On A Good Day (Metropolis)" at every gig. His sets have been very very samey for the past 12 months - and one of his latest sets contained tunes from the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Chuckie, Avicii and lots of cheesey reworks of tunes like Insomnia, Zombie Nation, etc.

  14. I've got to be honest mate, its been that long since I set the Ortofons up on my old decks that I can't remember. 1.5g rings a bell - but don't quote me on that. I think there was a slip of paper inside the box - I think it has the recommended weight on one of those slips somewhere? Generally, I think the Ortofons run a fair bit lighter than the 'standard' chunky carts. I can't offer much more help than that i'm afraid mate. Its been a while
  15. If Gareth Emery and Jono 'Above & Beyond' Grant are the ones to look out for this year - then i'd hate to hear the ones to avoid in 2012. RIP The Trance Scene.
  16. I think one was silver whilst the other was black too?
  17. No worries Tim! Just got your PM. I'll have that packed and sent for you tomorrow
  18. Nice buy mate! I missed my Technics - CDJs were a bit dull and never had the same 'hands-on' feel that vinyl had. Any plonker can mix on CDJs Anyway, save youself some money mate - I have a practically new Ortofon Concorde Nightclub S cart and stylus if you want it. Its free to a good home. I bought it with the intention of using it to rip my old vinyl collection to CD - but in the end, I bought most of my collection again on CD or MP3 download bar the odd one or two that I couldn't get digitally but never got around to ripping before I sold my decks. Not sure what the difference is between the stylus above and the Concorde S, but I do know that the Concorse S was the best at its time. I think they were something like £75 each. If you want it, PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post for you. Its only sat in its box collecting dust here. Its a shame to let it waste in my drawer - its only been used 3 or 4 times.
  19. Its basically another one of the Trance DJ's that are trying to look cool/rebellious against the current state of Trance by trying to make out that they're doing something different to the rest. Above & Beyond started this Trance 2.0 nonsense, the likes of Kearney, Indecent Noise, Patterson and Askew now refer to themselves as "Team 140" - and Markus Schulz's dig is 'Unicorn Slaying' (basically, the Unicorns being 'bad Trance tunes'). All of the above makes me cringe. Its meant to be semi tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time, i'm sure that by using these tags, they're hoping to win new fans by making them think "Hell yeah, I hate all that slow stuff too - so i'll follow the Team 140 guys instead". Yes, Trance has slowed down and become rather dull and tedious - and some artists have gone quite cheesy too - but all these stupid names/titles/indirect digs are dividing the trance scene even more. Forget the stupid names, tags and gimmicks - just get on with it and let the sets/productions doing the talking. These guys have short memories. One minute they'll post a Facebook status saying "Trance can be any speed or style - there are no rules" - and then half an hour later, they'll post "Just produced another 140bpm power-Trance monster #team140" - errr hello? Schulz claims to be 'Unicorn Slying' (ignoring cheesy tunes) - then he'll play some Big Room Reconstruction of a pop-dance act like Calvin Harris. Its just making them all look stupid with gay tags/divisions :pinkman:
  20. Happy birthday Tim! Have a good un!
  21. Agreed - I hate Markus's vocal tunes. 'Daydream' in particular is one that I hate. He was also playing a corny "Big Room Reconstruction" of one of Calvin Harris' tunes about 18 months ago. Markus, in my opinion, is at his best when he's playing the dark, moody stuff. I don't like him when he plays the floatier, vocal stuff. I find his new sound quite dull too. My friend is a die-hard Markus fan and a good friend of his (a genuine friend, not one of those weirdos that thinks they're a mate because they've asked for his photo and praised his set) - and even she's admitted that she's going off him a bit now because when they pick him up from the airport or drop him off at his hotel, he's now become slightly obsessed with the DJ Mag poll and constantly talking about "Unicorn slaying" - whereas 12 months ago, he wasn't at all interested in the DJ Mag poll or "rebelling against the Trance scene with a corny title". Anyway yeah, back on topic, Jules is a legend. Mr T is crap....
  22. I've always wanted to go to London on NYE. The fireworks and atmosphere always looks fantastic on TV when they show the Thames by the London Eye. There wouldn't be any public transport running to get back though, parking in London would be a nightmare (it is at the best of times anyway unless you want to pay rip-off NCP car park prices) and driving through London after that would be a mare too. Hotels would cost a small fortune on NYE night too - so all of that has put me off going. Apart from that, i've never really been that big on NYE. Everywhere charges ridiculous prices to get into, drinks prices cost a fortune - with nothing really to showor gain from it. I'd rather just spend it with close friends or family. I'm a Christmas person really - I absolutely love Christmas - even more so time around because we didn't celebrate it in 2010 because my dad passed away a few months before Christmas, and his 70th birthday would have been a few days before Christmas so it didn't really feel right.
  23. John '00' Fleming loves a good moan. I don't recall J00F saying that Jules was a terrible radio presenter a few years ago though when Jules was supporting his Muse - Cydonia bootleg...... Jules has never been a 'natural' radio presenter, and doesn't have a 'natural' radio voice (even Jules has admitted that on numerous occasions during interviews over the years) - however, he is still a good presenter, and what he lacks in 'natural' radio ability, he more than makes up for with his personality, his on-air wit, knowledge in music and general laid-back, easy-listening approach. J00F is just a bitter old sod. He's constantly moaning about how shit Trance is, how shit other DJs are, how shit the clubbing scene is, how shit promotors are and how shit productions are. Thats just about everything to do with clubbing and DJ'ing - so if its really that shit, then retire. Someone should lock J00F, Askew and Emery in a room together so that they can all moan amongst themselves - after all, they seem to love that more than DJ'ing.
  24. I said that in one of the other threads too - it does seem very coincidental. Jules, in my opinion, was at his best when he had two filterers - Simon Patterson dealing with all the 'banging' stuff - and Chris Barratt dealing with all the Funky House/Electro House. It all started to go downhill when they moved on. Simon and Chris both DJ themselves, and both know a good tune. I've no idea what Mr T's background is, but he seems to be a 'jack of all trades, master of none'. The tunes that he seems to be filtering through are average at best. His productions are also average at best - and as a DJ, he's genuinely one of the worst i've ever heard. His sets are random - with no flow and a severe lack of set building skill. Its as if he turns up, pulls random tunes out of his wallet and just mixes them with very little thought behind the set. There's also lots of loose beats when he mixes, and the music leans a bit on the cheesey side. I can't help but think that he's using Jules's name in order to raise his own profile (and when I see one of his dodgy bootlegs on a Jules tracklist each week, it convinces me even more), because without trying to sound harsh, he's simply not good enough to "make it" on his own. Its only since he's been involved with Jules that i've started to see his name on line-ups - and even then, its usually Judgement Sundays line-ups, Jules's Monday night gigs at BCM in Majorca, or a line-up elsewhere with Jules on the same line-up. Its very rare he's on a line-up without Jules.
