  1. Have you got this on vinyl #2? Can help you out if you don't want to buy it?
  2. Best places ever mate. Have picked up many many good tunes. Plus, there is always the option to negotiate face to face and get some mega bargains.
  3. Isn't it the greatest feeling ever when you get 'the letter' for 'that job'? Just got me some pleasing news in the post this morning and have been walking round with an annoying grin on my face all day.
  4. It was a Jules' favourite back in the day, so I don't see why he wouldn't if you ask nicely!
  5. I have the same problem. I set myself monthly limits!
  6. I hope you've had, are having, a great day. Happy Birthday.
  7. Have to ask, why do you need a 1k rig in your room?!
  8. Ableton will be easier to get the hang of to begin with, plus the buzz is all around it at the moment. Lots of resources online and people talking about it right now. Logic is the more powerful in the broader scheme of things. Power gives you more creative freedom, but is also intimidating and can make you lose sight of what you're trying to achieve. To be honest, it doesn't really matter what program you use. The program is a tool, and nothing more. What counts is what you do with it. I'm very much a 'get your hands dirty' man. I also think people should start small and work up. Reason is a very good starting point. It's powerful, self contained, and best of al reasonably (ha ha!) priced. Most importantly, it will give you a good introduction to a lot of other concepts you'll use with more complex programs if and when you move on. Plus, its hardware like interface really does appeal to me, though I understand others will be put off. For what it's worth, I use a combination of Fruity Loops, Reason, and Acid Pro.
  9. I understand what you're saying, and yes feature/talk overkill is a terrible thing. But I'm not sure the 'freedom' of internet radio really does produce a thing beauty. I really like to seeing people put some effort into a show and having a bit more though than just two hours of tunes I could just as easily listen to without using up my bandwith. Doesn't have to be much as a little goes a long way, but there really needs to be something other than just the music. Just like clubs who feature 'David whogivesaf*** Harpendon - the freshest talent in clubland' who have a website with them in a cool designer t-s***, jeans bit of stubble and aviator glasses, the internet is awash with bland identikit djs with no other real reason to listen. Not saying you are here Tom in the slightest, but just making a general point. At the time, yes I did just want to hear jules mix for two hours solid. But now my perspectives have changed. Moresonw when the internet can provide countless live mix sets from clubs with NO radio interaction. I want a bit more. Where's the knowledge, the passion for the music? I don't just want to hear something, I want to be engaged, want to learn something, want to get the feeling that the person playing me this music loves it as much as I do.
  10. 'Fraid I'm nowhere near that talented! That twin webber EP is a favourite of mine thought and as Scream Electric was only ever named on Jules' Clubbed and not the offical release I took inspiration as I though the name aesthetically matched my rough sound. Will have a bash at some grimy d'nb for you in a bit mate!
  11. Had to have a think about this one. Probably Picotto/Ferri - New Time New Place. Though much thought was given as to when the right time was to drop it, I've played it successful in the following situations with no dramas and it's become a never leave the box type tune: - Indie nights (when it's ok to slip a bit of dance in, was peel playlisted after all) - Indie Dance nights (self explanatory) - Commercial Techno - Non-Commercial Techno (if you're a bit clever and spice things up a bit with sampling/looping clever drops quick mixes etc) - Trance - Tech-Trance - Electro House - 8-bity, synth-popy, electro, video game type stuff - And of course 'eclectic' nights Other than that it's New Order - Blue Monday. Never ever played that in any set and had a bad reaction. In fact it has had more plays but NTNP struck me as a very versitile tune the other day.
  12. Hello chaps. New tune from me up on the myspace: http://www.myspace.com/screamelectric It's a bleepy bouncy housy analogy synthy style sort of affair. First tune up in the list: Scintilla (Module A). Comments, suggestions, thoughts, and importantly friends on Myspace more than welcome!
  13. Two points I'd like to make that I think you should take into account before I add my two pence to the thread. 1) I have had heavy involvement in real live (non-internet radio) broadcasting. Not trying to say here that my opinion is more important or more informed, but to point out that I have some clear, and probably heavily biased, ideas as to what constitutes a radio show and what doesn't. 2) I've never had a listen to your show. Sorry buddy, but not really my bag. I agree and disagree with some of the points raised so far. Firstly, two hours of just music makes for a boring show. Yes the music may be good but I (and I'm sure many others) listen to hours of music a day without any context or flow. The odd vocal work glues everything together and adds flow to a show, making it more engaging on the part of the listener. Remember you don't have to go the club dj warmup/shoutout route, which would be unsuited to your musical style anway. Can easily go the muso route and talk about the producers, label, club nights associated with any tunes your playing. If someone has a passion for the tunes and an interest in the scene/culture you'll not be short of things to say. Secondly features are good. Just make sure that they are not the focus of the show (one an hour tops) and they are original and fresh ideas (not classic of the week or guest mixes). I'll leave the thinking to you, but I've tried stuff like B side of the week, working though the alphabet, musical links (play three tunes with a connection - Track A produced by X, who worked with producer Y on Track B in studio whatever where Track C was made). Plenty to use with some thought. Not sure about four hours though. It's intimidating to a listener. I've only go so many hours of the day and listening time is precious and valuable. The elitists and mega-fans will love it but you'll alienate getting a bigger audience. Internet 'radio' is all a bit samey to be honest. Just some guy playing some tunes with little to make it stand out. Anything you can do to make it stand out is good. May not be your thing (tech-step/neuro-funk) but check out the Lifted Podcast. I think they do things really well. Bit of chat, plenty of tunes, listener interaction, short and sharp at three quarters of an hour. Probabaly a bit too much chat to beginwith but they are trying to cram a lot into a short space. With more room to breathe it would make a great radio show in my view. Sorry for the discourse...
  14. Downloading - will listen at work tomorrow when I should be getting on with something more productive.

    A pondery

Woah, whoah flower! I think you speak for youself there.
  16. I agree with much of what you've said, when I think of the real strains on the system where I live, it's put on by people who have lived here all their lives. However, I don't think the focus on stats and spin is all to do with politicians. The media will jump on the smallest detail in any off hand comment from the pet dog of an unknown political researcher at university to an equally unknown backbencher. They'll also take stats and rip them to shreds turning them upside down and back to front just to try and disprove the initial use of them. Obviously, there both are to blame to some degree. But politicians we have checks, balances and controls on. I'm less optimistic about OFCOM's ability to reign in the media (of which the printed word is not even covered).
  17. Only around 10-15% of my music purchases are digital downloads. However, I have used the following: Juno Download, Beatport and Trackitdown. Of those I'd rank them in this order: 1) JunoDownlaod - Same great service and quality of the physical store. 2) Track-it-down - Good selection of tunes, good value for money. 3) Beatport - Generally expensive, slow and not much cop. I've only used this when I can't find what I want on the other two. I'd say there is quite a large gap between 2 and 3.
  18. Awesome work! I'm sure you'll have a great time!
  19. I listened to this last night. Good tunes in the mix. The only thing I'd suggest is to be a bit more conservative with the pitch control; many of the tunes felt too rushed.
  20. There are very few people who I'd reserve the 'c' word for; Nick Griffin is undoubtedly on that short list. I feel disgusted that he is representing out interests at the European Parliament.
  21. Some interesting (or not depending on your perspective, then again I'm a bit of a tunespotter) factoids relating to music posted in this thread: 1) Tetris is officially 25 years old this month. The programmer got no commercial benefit from the brand until 1996 as all profits went to the Soviet state which owned the copyright. 2) JX is a.k.a. Mekka of Diamond Back / Planet Perfecto fame, and is also a.k.a. Rex The Dog under which he produces the most fantastic tunes ever. 3) Capella worked with Mauro Picotto on some tunes under the R.A.F alias. Any other factoids I can think of I'll let you know asap.
  22. True, it is a democratic right not to vote, but you're a bit of an idiot if you don't. Also, I really do think that not voting removes ay moral claim you have to make complaints. If you don't like what's on offer you can still spoil the ballot. As for your second post, there is a confusion between a method of governance and with that methods outcome. Under democracy, everyone could vote for the winning party, just because more people vote for other parties or don't bother doesn't invalidate the method. Even if it is a joke, I still think it's our best bet to ensure effective governance and place some checks and balances on the executive.
