  1. I was going through reading old issues of Muzik magazine on a website that has scans of every single issue and happened upon the formerly mentioned on page 5, Jules Do Us A Tape feature. And these years later I reckon like many it was a Jules production that was shelved and now lost in time no doubt.

Jacey B, could you elaborate on this more? Have you a scan of the page maybe... I'm intrigued

  2. Interesting stuff. Though it doesn't fix the origin of why we should need these earplugs in the first place, if clubs actually balanced their soundsystems better. The amount of times I have stepped into a big club and the bass is so bloody loud and overpowering that all you're getting is your ribcage rattling with a BOOMING 4/4, and absolutely no mid-range texture whatsoever, or melody, which are all lost. It's actually tiresome.

Although it can go the other way round with no bass and too much high end: the worst ever ear ringing I ever experienced was actually in the Jazz Cafe in Camden many years ago and it was very obvious from the moment I stepped through the door that the treble was way too high - it actually hurt my ears whilst I was in there and I knew it was bad. I had ringing for 3 days straight, couldn't hear myself, and I'm not afraid to admit that it genuinely frightened the hell out of me. Although it thankfully subsided, I promised myself never to expose my ears to that again... If you ever get it, the best medicine for your ringing ears is definitely absolute silence for as long as you possibly can - and a dose of patience and hope that they will try to fix themselves, although sometimes they just won't get back to the level they were before.

Earplugs are cool and everyone should wear them; whether you opt for some high-end ones like these or the cheap foam ones you get from Boots, they offer significant protection than going without.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was at Durham Union for this set. Shortly after Jules finished and our local planet of sound DJ started someone set off the fire alarm and we found ourselves in the freezing artic tundra of Durham in the winter. Also, Ratty - Here I am, still gives me goosebumps.

Great to hear! It was bloody cold up there true.

A random student buddy whilst I was at Durham also once told me he was the one who definitely started the "clap" during Push - Strange World, and was delighted it made the recording!

  5. Gosh, that moment when track 6 appears just after the 23 min mark.... Must find out what that is.

Dave Pearce never got the recognition he deserved. I still remember taping his Dance Anthems show purely for his 3-track minimix near the end, his only chance to play some obscure dance tracks in a show that was otherwise unashamedly Anthem-tastic.

  6. Brilliant video find! That is definitely Amanda, Jules, and Scott Bond at around the 4:00 min mark :)

As these things have a habit of disappearing, tracklisting for that vid, lifted from that youtube thread:

Van Gils & De Goeij ‎- I Don't Need You Anymore

    Ariel - A9 (white label)

Storm - Time To Burn (Happy People In The Morning Mix)

Dumonde - See the Light (Jam x and De Leon Remix)

    Mr Spring - Susperia

Green Court - Follow Me (Jam x and De Leon Remix)

    unknown

The Conducter and the Cowboy - Feeling this Way

Tom Wax & Jan Jacarta - Wormhole

Sir James vs. DJ Misjah & DJ Tim - Rushing Access (Prohibition EP)

  7. Welcome to the board!

This is going back, but there were a couple along those lines from what I remember - but from around 99/2000.

One was "Electronik Battle Babies Vol 1" - that's in a show you can partially download here:

    http://www.judgejulesarchive.co.uk/archives/board/index.php?/topic/3479-1999-05-14-judge-jules-studio-session-2nd-half/

The other is a Hi-Gate track called Nappy Hardcore / The Laugh. I might be going mad but I seem to remember Jules once saying he recorded his baby son Jake laughing and then looped it to make a track out of it. That sounds ridiculous now but I'm sure it's true!

  8. Welcome to the site!

    Perhaps it was:

M.I.K.E. - Sunrise At Palamos [XTC / Bonzai]

Would have been a bit earlier, from 2000/2001. It's been re-released digitally now but they all lack the mid-range warmth you find from the original vinyl copies (just my opinion!), so I'd recommend seeking out an old vinyl on discogs.com - if this is the one!

  9. Jules's mix is here - somehow squashed into two hours of aural studio pleasure:

    http://www.judgejulesarchive.co.uk/archives/board/index.php?/topic/9536-judge-jules-christmas-2015-charity-board-mix-exclusive-for-judgejulesarchivecouk/

Veteran member and Moderator, Aza, has also compiled a simply outstanding extra-extra-special complimentary mix including some of those tracks that didn't make it:

    http://www.judgejulesarchive.co.uk/archives/board/index.php?/topic/9535-aza-presents-jja-10-year-anniversary-mix/

Enjoy both mixes and a very Happy Christmas to everybody from JJA

Hi guys, I was looking for the Mardi Gras 2002 show with jules (obviously) and Eddie. I have since found it and tapped download and listened to it which was great. Bought back loads of memories. My question is if I've downloaded it where in my iPhone does it go? Can I play it through any apps or is it basically like a stream. Just a bit confused as I can only acces and play it through safari at the moment. Thanks in advance.

If you download and use Google Chrome web browser on your phone to access this site instead of Safari, it handles mp3s differently, so when you hit "Download" it should prompt you to physically save it somewhere on your phone rather than stream it. I don't have an iPhone but I imagine after downloading any mp3 your phone's music player should pick up the new mp3 and it'll appear in your library to playback whenever you like :)

  12. The closing date has of course now passed. Thanks to everybody for donating and of course for selecting their tracks!

We can't select them all, but I'll do my best to get in as many as possible.

I need to collate mp3s and rip vinyls (thanks to Simcut for helping here), and hopefully when Ibiza season calms down Jules can find time to do this. I would hope we can release as a Christmas special. Watch this space.
