  1. Yep. Tribals where its at. No, its electro. I mean minimal. Or is it nu rave? They'll jump on anything just to be cool. Ah man i loved that year, and wouldnt change a second (though I really should!!!!!) Those jules tapes were like a religon with me and my mates at that time. We never missed a show. Then they got chewed, lost/stolen, and we spent years then saying 'i shoulda looked after them'. Then lo and behold, I found JJA. Was over the moon, plus was able to contribute a few sets aswell. Incidently, does anyone rem Jules' live Mardi Gras round 99? I'd love to hear that again, real summery set.
  2. I think Carl Cox was the only person on earth to see in the millenium twice if I rem right. Oz was 1st place to celebrate it, then he flew somewhere else to ring it in again. Dont rem where tho. Yeah mines was pretty good too, but by damp squib, i mean clubs charging £50 to get in, and everyone having house partys. (The Millenium Dome was a big flop if I remember right). No complete meltdown of all things electric was nice aswell!!
  3. If memory serves me right, Radio1 had something like a 12hr broadcast that night, and had Carl Cox live from a beach in Australia early on. He was playing on 3decks, and the wind kept blowing the needles all over the place. A night for technical problems all round, on prob the biggest damp squib of a night ever!
  4. Very true. But wasn't it just something special to be part of it? What p's me off something else, I read a history of dance article (mixmag I think), and the only years they talked about negatively was 99 and 2000 calling it the 'trance dark ages' or something similar. I mean come off it. I'm no fan of Nirvana, but I wouldnt be as ignorant as to just dismiss their music or the influence they had. Whether you like the music of that era or not, you cant deny its relevence, or just how plain fun it was.
  5. I swear I was gonna make a thread about the same thing. I had this conversation many times with my mates, and we always wonder, is it us being overly nostalgic about that era, or are people getting the same enjoyment outta tunes etc now? I honestly dont think so. Sure theres good music around now, but nothing that makes you go, wow, or tugs at the heart strigs, a la Ayla. Just my opinion of course, but loads of my friends think likewise. I think the fact that theres so much music around, therein making it more throwaway, is a big factor in this. There was nothing better than that white label vinyl you bought and didn't think much of, suddenly being the Tried and Tested tune a month later. You could claim to be a musical genius. Its also the scariest thing in the world to think that this was all TEN years ago now.
  6. Has anyone heard the Eiffel 65 sampling new Flo Rida song? Its as much wrongness as you can hope for on one track. Also, the Venga Boys are alive and well as they played in a local club here a month ago! Forefront of dance music here ya know. And no, I didn't go. Swear.
  7. Wow! this track had escaped me back then. Thats what I love about going back over these old sets, finding the gems that passed you by at the time. Top set!
  8. I kno nappy hardcore sampled jules' then toddler son, so maybe that track is another version of that? yeah its interesting to see tho, tracks that you thought were great, got on other peoples wick!!!!
  9. Actually quite liked that when it came out. Then my mates threatened me with mutilation till i stopped playing it. in hindsight, they were very right to do so!
  10. What tunes did Jules play that stunk, in an anotherwise top set? For me he played that really ropey remix of Eminem's Stan. Stanley I think it was called. Played it a few times too back in the midst of some classic sets. Recently, a dodgy Coldplay sampling tune.
  11. I'm from ireland, we've had the Euro for about 5yrs now. Its pants, honestly. We had a national shortage of 1&2c coz no one would use them. so fiddly.
  12.
