  1. how long was Genix's longest ever DJ set?
  2. I started writing a reply here ealier and got distracted but it was going to say the same thing Briggsy. For me I just found the main hook.... the 'oboe' bit quite annoying. I still bought it on vinyl as I tended to buy all the Jules productions for a while as a collector. I actually liked mixing the original mix... it has that same great sound to the beats and intro which made mixing all the Jules/Masterson productions alot of fun but for me where the tune goes after that is my least favourite of their tunes. The Green Martian Mix didn't do it for me either really... I just don't like that Oboe sound and all that remix does really is change the order of the notes and then apply the standard formula Green Martian sound. Every remix they did just sounded too much like Industry for my liking. Now that was a tune in itself I can not deny but take Logo - 'Don't Panic' for example - it's just so similar to industry.
  3. Yeah the situation has affected everybody but I guess circumstances are different for everybody. I don't earn a big salary at all but I still live at home with my Mum so I can afford to live perhaps more easily. It is all relative to the circumstances. I could certainly not afford to buy my own place yet or support a family so I sympathise with those who do have those pressures. On the flip side though I don't have any of those things and the future doesn't look bright for getting on the property ladder or starting a family etc. I'm 26 and still living at home, not great in some ways but then again sometimes I do feel like I'd have far more to worry about by now if I had moved out on my own a few years ago for example. The picture doesn't look bright for any of us but as Briggsy says what can we do but grit our teeth?
  4. Haha and they are drinking Guiness in the studio at the moment
  5. I can see how this could be true. I have only been watching bits on webcam tonight. Started with Scott Mills, then a bit of Mista Jam, now a bit of Nick Grimshaw. I would never listen to Mista Jam or Grimshaw normally but Moyles and Dave have really made their shows entertaining with what they're doing. I do often have to suffer the daytime DJ's at work and once Fearne comes on at 10 it's always dire. I have always liked the Moyles breakfast show. It's been really interesting seeing him interact with all the other DJ's. Very impressed he's been at the controls for the last few hours at least as well. Must be really hard to concentrate by now.
  6. I agree with Briggsy about voting for who seems right at the time. I also voted Tory at the last election cos I also felt that Labour had got the country into a real financial mess. I think we definitely need to try and reduce the massive debt we are in and to do that it's gonna be tough, there is no easy way. I know things are likely to get worse for a good few years but I guess we just got to live with it now.
  7. Anyone else heard any of this? Been watching on webcam a little bit. I have to say it's actually pretty entertaining. Think they're on about hour 39 now and raised over a million quid. Pretty impressive. I would love to do something like this.
  8. Haha well at least you know there is no week you can avoid that then!
  9. Sorry mate. Nothing against your production abilities but this does nothing for me. I just don't see the need for an update of such a classic tune and to be fair that's my opinion of most of these remixes. Corsten's work was faultless around the time of this track - none of his classics need remixing.
  10. I like this concept of a mix of old tunes which was mixed at the time they were new. I also came accross one of the first digitally recorded sets I did in 2005 recently. Prior to that I had been recording mixes on tape since 1999. Sadly not many of those have survived as it would be interesting to check them out. I'm downloading this one anyway sir. I still tend to mix all my classics mixes on vinyl as there is just something about it which will never be replaced for me by all this digital mixing. Nowadays I use Traktor Scratch with CDJ's but it all just feels a bit easy in a way. There was certainly more skill involved in mixing tightly on decks and I still love the challenge of doing so with my record collection. Thanks for the share Aza, I will endeavour to give some feedback soon.
  11. Yeah the lineups often come out just before opening party I think... I would expect them to be available by start of May but not sure how long before that.
  12. Wow lots of new faces. It's great to see more people getting involved in the discussions. This board is a fantastic resource for archived audio and ID'ing tracks through the tracklistings but it's also a place for great friendly discussion and reminiscing. Look forward to chatting to some more of you on here.
  13. Sweet. That looks like a neat little box as well. Well done mate.
  14. I still manage to find plenty of Trance that I like each month and hence the monthly mixes keep coming. One thing I have noticed though is that if I'm honest I couldn't name many tunes that I played in a set say a couple of months ago when listening to it back. This is the problem with the MP3 market. I tend to find tunes that are good enough to buy because the cost of a track is so little compared to when I bought vinyl. However, there is no longevity to tunes any more. They are here one minute, gone the next. If I played a monthly mix I did from my vinyl days I'd still be able to tell you every track name, artist, remix and label just from hearing a short sample because I played those tunes over and over, not just once or twice to feature in the latest monthly mix. I spent a lot of money on those vinyls so it goes without saying it would be imprinted on my memory for years. Now there is no physical item to hold and look at when you buy a tune and I rarely bother thinking about the artist and title etc except when making the tracklists. I think all this says something about the current state of trance. It is an over saturated market and as many others have said, it becomes harder and harder to find the gems. Those gems will be the rare tunes that I will know the name, artist, label etc from hearing a short snippet even a good few months after it was out. That for me is now the test of a good tune - how much impact does it really have on me long term.
  15. Well at least you know both monitors work. When you checked the monitors on the left output and right output seperately, did you use the same cable or was there a different cable on the left to the right. It could be a dodgy cable that's all I was thinking. Keep eliminating possible faults mate and let us know how it goes. If you can prove you have a working cable and working monitor by connecting them to the left output but connecting exactly the same cable and monitor to the right output does not work then it would unfortunately seem like the mixer being at fault. The Pioneers are pretty robust but it would not be the first time I've known someone with a DJM600 with a blown output.
  16. Listened to this yesterday. I usually dont like dubstep but there were a couple of tunes I quite liked in this one. The first one is good. I have to admit I was bored by 15 mins through but dont take it personally mate I can only handle dubstep in very small doses and there are very few tunes I like. Nice to dabble with some different styles though eh. I must post a happy hardcore mix on here soon... that's my 2nd genre shall we say... trance and happy hardcore!
  17. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/106540 This is a very basic solution for you for a tenner! It has a line input on mini jack which is what you were used to using on your old laptop.
  18. Hi mate, It sounds like you are recording on the new laptop via the "mic input," presumably because there is no "line input." This would certainly explain the distortion. A microphone has a very low level output and so a mic input to a mixer or a laptop has a built in pre-amp to amplify the mic level signal into a more usable strength signal shall we say. Your mixer output will be at line level, a much higher voltage which does not need this extra amplification stage. Therefore if you connect your mixer output to the mic input it will be distorted because it is already maxing out or "clipping" at the input stage before it has even hit the recording software. Your instincts are correct - you will need an external USB or Firewire sound card with a line input if your laptop does not have an on board input. These vill vary greatly in price but I would imagine you could get something simple for under £50.
  19. OK worked first time in firefox today... was not happy yesterday for some reason
  20. Hmmm having issues trying to download this. Do you have to be a mediafire member to download? If you get a chance I recommend getting a soundcloud account and uploading stuff to that. Then you can easily embed the mix into the pages here on the board. Thanks
  21. Gonna check this out mate thanks. Loads of stuff there I've not heard so good chance to check out some new tunes.

Yeah fantastic board this is... I hope you'll find it useful!
  23. No worries guys. Glad you enjoyed it. I do enjoy picking the highlights of any particular year because by definition it's gonna be full of big tunes. OK they are my choice of the years best tunes and I'm sure others would compile something totally different but they always at least serve me well for car journeys reminiscing on my personal favourites. I'm glad to be able to pass on the results to others who will hopefully enjoy it too. Thanks for the feedback Aza, always great to hear your opinions. In a time where Trance has really slowed down I was pleased to be able to build the set up to a bit of a crescendo at the end with some faster paced more hard hitting stuff. Whilst I've adapted to the slower sound and still like tunes at that speed as long as they have the uplifting side to them, you still cant beat some proper hard energy beats and dark techy sound. Simon Patterson's tunes at the end also round it off with some trancey breakdown but have a bit of a psy-trance edge... hard beats plus melodic breakdowns.
  24. Good stuff mate. Will check it out. Have you got a tracklist for your January mix. Intrigued to hear your 'Rave Revolution' booty... I'm guessing it might be on ur Jan mix?
