  1. I've been listening to some of Jules' old sets from around 2000 (especially the one from Lush that features the infamous unknown track) & there are some tracks that I am absolutely desperate to get hold of. I know there are probably vinyl floating around on Discogs & Ebay but I use CD's now and my old decks haven't worked properly in years so I don't have the means of transferring them. It's proving quite a challenge to find anywhere that sells digital copies of any of these at all, let alone high quality 320k CBR copies. Here's the list anyway: DJ Scot Project - 'F (Future Is Now)' (Hardriff Mix) Oliver Klein - 'Rheinkraft' (Ian Wilkie Mix) Mabel - 'Disco Disco' (Nick Sentience Remix) Was that the remix Jules played? Anglia - 'Out Of Grace' (Plug 'n' Play Remix) Sons Of Piru - 'Impure Thoughts' Hi-Gate - 'I Can Hear Voices' (Schizophrenic Mix) Champion Burns - 'Bat Train' Hi-Gate - 'Work It Out' The Shrink - 'Are You Ready To Party?' Flickman - 'A.N.L.' Da Hool - 'Eichelruck' Marc Dawn - Expander (Flutlicht Remix) VPL - 'T Break' Virtual DJ - 'From Sunset To Sunrise' (Gigi Lav Mix) Dave The Drummer - 'The One, Last One' Magica - Magica (Ibiza Remix) Anyone up for the job of helping me hunt down these tracks? Many thanks
  2. Anyone visited the place? It's in the skankiest, seediest part of brum imaginable & it's a real b*tch to find. Damn expensive too. I tend to use Chemical Records these days. The last track I bought from HTFR was Azure - Sunset (years back) yet somehow I'm still on their mailing list.
  3. Cracking bassline. Does seem to sound a bit distorted but I think something as simple as a bit of balancing & maybe some stereo widening would fix that. Definitely liking what I hear so far!
  4. I really miss the days of F&W, those fantastic Fingers Burnt booties and tracks like the E-Craig remix of Silvio Ecomo's Uprising. Back then if I saw the name Rank1 on a release I'd have bought it without even listening to it because I knew it was going to be fantastic driving & energetic trance. I can't remember the last realease off them that actually did anything for me. Back around 2003 / 2004 techno was hard banging stuff, trance was so energetic and tech trance was full on, hard and chunky. Lately it's been near impossible to find a decent pumping techno track that isn't by Peppelino, Reaky, or Axel Karakasis because all the other producers seem to be producing that minimal stuff (some like it but personally it bores me to death). The slow down of techno coupled with the slow down of trance & the recent influx of loads of proggy stuff has caused tech trance to slow down too. Back about 4 years ago prog & tech trance were distinct genres with tech trance always having that hard edge but now the edges are blurred. As a result producers that were churning out absolute belters such as Marco V, Cosmic Gate, etc have gone all soft. On top of that many great producers of a few years ago are unheard of now. I fell out of love with dance music around 2005 but when I got back into it around the beginning of 2008 everything was fresh & that electro chunky sound that trance was using was brilliant. Fast forward a year & a half and it's so stale. In all honesty I haven't bought any new tunes in a month or two. All i've been mixing lately is classics from 03 / 04. </rant>
  5. I've been messing around with a remix of this for a while now out of my sheer love for the track. I'll have to crack on with it.
  6. I've just completed yet another track. The latest production under my TJR guise is called Screwdriver. I've gone for a real up front trance sound for this one compared to the more techy sound of my last one Petroleum. Would love to get some feedback & hear your thoughts as always, especially on the production quality. This one is entirely mastered at audio track / instrument level with just a little bit of compression on the master channel to round off the final sound. TJR - Screwdriver [128k] Cheers
  7. Even back in '03 & '04 Jules was hammering out some real belters. Some nice 'off the wall' house (if you know what I mean) & some absolutely cracking trance with the odd techno track thrown in. What initially got me into Jules (after previously listening to Seb Fontaine) was the fact that most of the tracks he played had something that stood out about them & were a bit different. Typical examples are the Kansai remix of Golden Sun, F&W's You Will Understand & Warrior's X. I remember tuning in to the show & hearing tracks that made me go weak at the knees. His monthly sets all seemed to have a nice flow that bursted with energy. Back then he used to play a bit of a mish mash but it was still structured & the contrast worked well. Now his sets lack structure & the random flow completely kills the energy. He doesn't seem to pick tracks that mix well these days either. His mixing has that Dave Pearce feel to it lately (y'know where the two tracks clash a bit but he goes for it anyway). I guess I've got a lot of nostalgia for the Jules we saw (or is that heard?) between 2000 & 2005 but he definitely was a better all round dj back then.

  10. Cheers for the feedback guys Matt i'm having trouble sending you a PM. Keeps saying something about you not being able to receive any new messages. Any feedback Mr Ross? Cheers once again
  11. I'm just getting ready to head off down to Cornwall for a few days in the early hours but before I head off I'll leave you all with a rough master of my latest track 'Petroleum' under my new moniker 'TJR'. It's a bit different to my usual style & is generally inkeeping with the sound my current productions are following. Link: http://www.4shared.com/file/117631602/9556..._Petroleum.html Some feedback to read when I get home on thursday night would be very much appreciated. Cheers
  12. I'd definitely be interested in a copy. Outstanding stuff as always.
  13. That the pork sandwich shop opposite the Royal London? It's gotta be a Subway for me. Itallian BMT, Steak & Cheese, or Meatball Marinara. Heaven.

  15. Have a look at these: http://www.djkit.co.uk/product.php?id=3030&cat=62 Good aesthetics, solid build quality, nice features & they're pretty cheap. I've got a pair & I really can't fault them.

    I have

I keep meaning to quit smoking & lose some weight. It's not going too well though. Saying that, I did a 22 mile charity sponsored walk up a big f**k off hill & back the other week. I didn't even want to do it but my girlfriend signed me up without telling me so the first I knew about it was when she handed me my sponsor form & numbers. She then proceeded to drop out after 10 miles & leave me to do the hard bit on my own. We hadn't even got 5 miles & we were lighting our fags. I spent the next 2 days walking like I'd lost my donkey. To be honest I'm really glad I finished it (never again though).
  17. Cracking tracklist & all topped off with a bit of Waxxed! Some tracks I hadn't heard before in there. Flows really nicely.
  18. Just had a listen. Absolutely cracking. Brilliant choice of tracks & flawless mixing. Keep 'em coming mate!
  19. It's well worth having a play around with. There's a massive range of presets & I don't usually bother altering them much. Most of the work I do is in the mixer with the EQ, compression, stereo enhancing, balancing, phase & flange effects, etc. I find that is usually all I need to do to get the sound I'm looking for.
  20. 3xOsc is great for those nice electro style basslines. I find myself using the bass presets in Sytrus quite a lot lately (to be honest I prefer Sytrus over the several third party synth vst's that I have). Some of the deeper ones such as 'Electric' used with heavy compression & some boost on the low end make some really powerful techno style basslines. I have considered using Acid for sequencing & mastering but I'm not very proficient with it. I guess I'm just used to the way things are done in FL because i've been using it for about a year. I have at points tried to switch over to Ableton but again I just couldn't get to grips with it. If anyone's got any tips or knows about any good tutorials for Acid or Ableton then sling 'em my way lol.
  21. Yeah it's all about getting the right sound. The kind of track where if you removed the smallest element it just wouldn't be the same. I find myself getting it almost right but then messing around with it too much & ruining it. There are about 30 dead tracks on my computer where I laid a few bars down to play with & just couldn't get the feel I was after.
  22. I'll get a 320 sorted for ya. Yeah I wasn't really sure what to do with the tech mix. I find tech harder to produce because it's generally bass & percussion driven (which can get boring if not done right) as opposed to straight up trance which has more melody to keep the listener interested. Every techy track I've made so far (except Sundown) has been a bit on the boring side.
