  1. I tend not to use too many samples. I only really use samples for percussion generally. I'll have a kick sample for example on one channel (e.g. channel 1) then i'll EQ it & add some compression using the mixer & lay out the beats in the step sequencer (4 beats). Once i've done that i'll draw 16 bars of it (4 beats to a bar) in the main sequencing window. Then i'll move to channel 2 & assign something else to that (possibly a hat sample) then lay it out in the step sequencer, add some reverb & adjust the EQ, etc, then lay out 16 bars of that. I keep doing that until I have all of the percussion for my track laid out across 16 bars (each element usually on a single track). Then I can adjust paramaters to get it all fitting in nicely. Then I move on to the bassline. I lay out the melody using the piano roll then fill the 16 bars with it in the main sequencing window. Then add some effects (EQ, compression, etc) & get it all sounding nicely together. I usually add a peak controller to the kick & link the bassline's volume controller to it so that when the kick hits the bass kills slightly to get it driving along (I do this on a lot of instruments & even percussion sometimes). Then I just carry on with the other instruments until I have the main crescendo of my track laid out. Then I add in other parts for each instrument & play around to see how each part transitions from one to the other. After that I lay out the track from start to finish & give it a few listens & play around with the structure. Once I'm happy I work on adding automation to paramaters so instruments can fade in & out nicely where needed. Then I listen some more & make any changes that need making. Finally if the track needs mastering (depends how well each instrument has been EQ'ed) I'll add a multi band compressor to the master channel & tweak until I'm happy with it. Hopefully that should get you started lol. Yeah the FL demo isn't the best because you can't save & when you export you get a hissing sound play over the track every now & then to tell everyone that you made it with the demo. There are, of course, plenty of places to 'obtain' such software online but I don't encourage or condone doing so. The basic version of FL is pretty cheap. Definitely a good investment.
  2. I use FL Studio. People complain that it's a bit basic but I still haven't found it's limits. It's probably the best software to start off with because it's pretty easy to get the hang of & there's loads of really good tutorials floating about the web. If you can get hold of it have a play around & I'm sure you'll be churning out classics in no time. On it's way mate
  3. I have those jeans... *sets fire to jeans*
  4. Cheers bud! Yeah they must do I think. To be honest I do it myself sometimes so I don't know why I'm complaining haha.
  5. 21 downloads & not one bit of feedback?
  6. Just completed a new track entitled 'Evasion'. The Original Mix is a nice pumping trancer & the Tech Mix is slightly more laid back. The Original Mix is completed but I may do some more work to the Tech Mix. I'm generally into the more hard edged tech so I'm producing in unknown territory. Would love some tips for what else I can do with it. For those of you who don't like downloading without listening there's a player on the download page Links: Original Mix 128k TJ's Tech Mix 128k Cheers!
  7. Looks like a killer tracklist mate. I'll give it a listen.
  8. My first vinyl was the shockingly awful vocal re-release of Riva's 'Stringer' just for the original mix on the B side. My first tape was Supergrass's 'I Should Coco' album.
  9. Here's a track i've been working on for a day or two now. Samples vocal from Cassius - The Sound Of Violence. Waxxed - Sundown Some feedback & tips for improvements would be nice Cheers!
  10. Sounds as bad as Sainsbury's mate. Can't say too much about Sainsbury's though because one guy I work with was suspended the other week for slagging them off on the interweb. Says it all. *goose-steps to work*
  11. Detained without trial... dressed in orange... asked questions you don't know the answer to... How would you like to work at Homebase?
  12. Still a work in progress this one. Something a little more techy. Interested to hear your opinions, constructive criticism & feedback as always. Waxxed - Burns (Original Mix) Cheers!
  13. Gotta love Family Guy! 2 Girls One Cup is pretty nasty but i've seen worse. Try googling BME Pain Olympics... It's horrifying.
  14. Totally! I mean yeah he's getting on in years but he doesn't look a day over 65. I hope they have a mobile castration clinic situated in the queue line...

    Trackitdown

Anyone ever tried to buy anything from Trackitdown only for it to be removed from your basket at the checkout along with the "we don't have the licence to sell this release in your country" message? I was after a copy of 'Cave - Carnival (Max Walder Remix)' the other day & that happened. After tearing my hair out looking for it elsewhere to no avail I decided to try changing the format to WAV (slightly dearer) & it went through like a charm. Why have the restrictions only on mp3's? I was also looking for 'Graham Gold & B Jammin' - Golden Sun (Kansai Remix)' but it's only available as a 192k mp3 yet the original mix is available as a 320. Worse still is that it's the worst quality 192k mp3 i've ever heard. Soulds like it's ripped from Youtube... </rant>
  16. Absolutely brilliant this. Quality stuff as always. Mind if I have a crack at remixing it?
  17. Happy Birthday buddy!
  18. And Buckethead avatars (Y)
  19. Not all strictly trance but all classic tracks
  20. The Re-Wired Mix has different vocal parts at the start of the breakdown & a few other differences which kinda kill the flow. It just doesn't compare to the original Dogzilla mix that Jules was caning imo.
  21. Finally I can get the Dogzilla Mix of So Damn Beautiful in mp3 format without having to settle for the apauling 'Dogzilla Re-Wired Edit'. I tried ripping it from vinyl a while back & the quality was abysmal haha. Ahh i'm happy now. Easily pleased? Probably...
